Like a Fiat Panda but bigger?

DH is 6ft4 and 5yr old DS is growing like a weed. Leg room is becoming a serious issue if we all get in the car at once. Combined with the fact that my much loved Panda is getting on a bit, I think it's time to put Pansy out to pasture (yes, I named my car).

I know very little about cars and do not care a whit about make or model. I love the Panda for the following reasons:

  • Driving position is nice and high.
  • Big flat rear windscreen & nothing sticking out at the rear, so excellent view of the road, piece of piddle to park.
  • Has 5 doors and the roof is actually quite high so I can fit a surprising amount of equipment in the car with relative ease (am a community occupational therapist).

So I'd like those things from a new car. I'd also like the following:
As cheap and economical to run as possible
However maybe a little bit more engine power than the panda - bit tired of DH & DS yelling "PEDAL FASTER!" when going up a hill when fully packed for holiday!

Budget say around 7k give or take? (Preferably take....) (Will be getting a loan of some sort)

Can you lovely people give me some ideas? Saw a Kia Soul the other day that looked like a possibility, but that was pure chance, I know nothing about what's out there.

Hi, I love my panda too and dread the day when need to trade him in,mines a black one named Derek. Have you had a look at the panda 4x4 very much like the standard panda but bigger and chunkier and lots more oomph. It won top gear 4x4 a couple of years ago and you might be able to pick up a used one for your budget.

A Yeti.

I want one! all the trendy mums at DS's school have them.

They are relatively recent but I imagine a second hand market will be taking off soon.
