Real Ballet shoes??

My DD aged 5 really wants some

she has 'pretend'ones but wants the real thing this year

she doesn't go to Ballet classes but dresses up a lot in her outfit in the house. I am reluctant to spend a fortune on them though

any idea's?

Have looked on Ebay but they all go for quite a bit and look a bit grubby!!

Aren't you meant to get 2 sizes bigger than their actual shoe size also?

If anything ballet schoes are supposed to be 2 sizes smaller than actual size (that's what dance school will tell you, I found same size seemed more comfy for dd, though). Look in phone book for dance shops. Some generalised school outfitters will sell them, too. Just have to phone around. They cost about £8 a pair.

I bought some on Ebay once but they were really worn out (looked ok, but fell apart too quick). Dance school will just sell you a pair, too, your child doesn't have to take classes.

Just found some new ones on E Bay that seemed quite reasonable. Most seem to say to get 1 size bigger

Defintely 1-2 sizes BIGGER than normal shoe size! Ballet shoes are tiny.

AT least with one size bigger you know she'll grow into them if they don't fit now. The fit "they" want for real ballet class is very tight, maybe.

You can get them in John Lewis - about £8/£9 I think.

If it helps, DD is a school shoe size 2 and a 3.5 in ballet shoes. So bigger!

dd's ballet class told me to get ballet shoes 2 sizes bigger than her normal shoe size.... she was a size 8 normal shoe, so they advised us to take a 10 ballet shoe.......

the ballet shoes definately come up very small, dd is now a size 9 normal shoe, and her ballet shoes are sooo tight...

but she is giving up ballet at christmas so i am not buying any new ones (mean mummy that i am...)

get 2 sizes bigger if theyre leather..ive just gave ballett and tap shoes away today to little girl in dd's dance class, they were perfect!

I was told to order same as her shoe size but dd couldn't straighten her toes 1 Even a full size bigger (she has a Startrite 8 - 8 1/2 , and ballet shoes are a 9 1/2) is a snug fit but suspect the leather will give a bit.

we bought from ballet shop and they said 2 sizes bigger. £8 leather so not too expensive

We usually buy 1-1.5 sizes bigger fwiw. Leather definitely have more room than satin.

Size depends on type - always go bigger and if they're satin depends to be 2 sizes bigger - also check to see if elastic is already on if you don't want to do the sewing yourself!! Have you got any dance shops nearby?

If you can get away with it , H and M sometimes have ballet stuff.

she is a 12 and a half so probably need a 1

I actually have a size 1, brand new but with the elastics sewn in and initials NW on the inside.

They belonged to my neice but she never wore them. You are welcome to them if you don't mind the initials!

Leather ballet shoes not bad at £6.95}
Find a local shop and try some on, leather last a bit better than the satin ones.
I have found we need to get 1 to 2 sizes bigger.

Gillian76 thats surprising what you said about leather cos dd's leathre ones were at least one size too small even though they were actually one size bigger than her normal shoe,

her feet/toes were squashed inside and when i bought dd's new ones last week girl in store said always get 1 -2 sizes bigger esp in leahter cos theyre less plyable than the sating???

everyone seems to be getting diff info from diff shops here dont they?..best thing to do is go into a shop and try a few pairs/sizes on i think!
