Car seat for 9 month old who can't sit up yet

My ds2 is almost too long/ tall for his rear-facing carseat but he can't sit up yet. What options do I have? I had hoped not to have to buy an intermediate carseat as ds1 went straight from his rear-facing one to his Group 1 foward-facing seat.

if he doesnt have the strength to sit up yet you really need to keep him backward facing. I think you really need ot either get a seat that does (backkward and forward facing or a bigger back facing seat. How do you mean that he is too big? As long as his head isn't reaching the top, he is fine, don't worry so much about his head.

I agree with KK actually. DD was in a forward facing, travel system car seat until she was 18 months old. She was able to sit, but was just little so we didn't feel a forward facing one was appropriate until then. I didn't even know you could get intermediate ones tbh.

I agree that as long as the head and upper body is supported in the seat he is in, there shouldn't be too much to worry about.
