Hi new website opened called uksupermarket

Basically you choose your usual online supermarket, do your shopping and it then goes and compares prices with all the other online supermarkets. I saved ?6 today on a ?30 shop! it even gets your favourites from Tesco to make shopping easier.

It also gives you alternatives/substitutions that are cheaper ie if there are special offers on a similar item. Its cracking!

tracyk · 19/10/2006 15:47

Can you buy from it - I thought it was just a comparison site??

howlidaymum · 19/10/2006 15:49

yes you can! Thats why its so good! It compares them all then you choose the cheapest and buy it all on one website. Ace

not much use for us - only tesco deliver in our area

tracyk · 19/10/2006 15:51

Oh no- they don't deliver to my postcode! Good website though!
How do they make money from it?

howlidaymum · 19/10/2006 15:55

It says that in time they are going to introduce paid for premium services within the site. I assume they make nothing at themo and are just gaining custom.

that is impressive

howlidaymum · 19/10/2006 16:05

Pure genius I reckon!

that site is great. I'm quite shocked tho, I did a sample shop of £60 from ocado jsut to get an idea and it really not as expensive as it seems. If I actually go to waitrose I end up spending a fortune!

tracyk · 19/10/2006 16:10

Same here - when I went to Waitrose - it was ££££ and if I bought from Ocado - I really struggled to get above the threshold for free delivery.

lucycat · 19/10/2006 16:23

I've just been through my tesco favourites list and picked out an average shop of £27, the same shop was £48 with Ocado!

Wonder what Lidl would compare to

SueW · 19/10/2006 16:25

They were on breakfast tv yesterday. Didn't say much other than describing the service

Crackle · 19/10/2006 16:28

Throckenholt, I thought the same initially as I can only get Tesco delivery here BUT!!!!!!!!

Quite wonderfully, it totted up my shopping trolley and then showed me a page where I could chose to swap items that I had chosen for other things at Tesco that I never pay any attention to.

I have saved £12 just by selecting the alternatives that the website suggested. I never really qualify for the £5 vouchers as I struggle to pay £50 pw (super frugal me ) so this is another way for me to save on delivery!

Some of the alternatives were not my cup of tea but most of them are so I am extremely pleased.

Brilliant thread.

howlidaymum · 19/10/2006 16:59

Yep thats how I saved £6 too was well impressed.

oddly I did mine with ocado and only asda was cheaper

the other two were more

hauntymandy · 19/10/2006 20:06

just gone through a favourite list. tesco £27.41
Ocado£48.81

CountessDracula · 19/10/2006 20:10

mine was

Asda £87.07
Ocado £94.36
Tesco £96.49
Sainsburys £99.09

hauntymandy · 19/10/2006 20:11

so how does it work? you choose what you want then choose where to buy it from?

Overrun · 19/10/2006 20:41

I think it is a great site, although it hasn't sucessfully sent my trolley to Sainsburys, which was only a pound more expensive than Tesco and Asda, which was surprising.
Will use it again if they can sort this out for me

lucycat · 19/10/2006 20:45

hauntymandy - did we buy the same things?
