Black Pram?

trixymalixy · 19/10/2006 11:54

Just looking for a bit of advice on what colour of pram to buy. My husband prefers it in black, but I think that might show up baby sick/food spills etc more than a red pram.

Does anyone have any advice or opinions?

Thanks

black's a bit dour isn't it?

other than that I don't think it matters very much. i really wanted one with a light coloured inside for no logical reason whatsoever.

NatalieJane · 19/10/2006 11:57

We have bought a black micralite, with a carrycot thing, so hopefull all of the baby sick will be on the sheet/blankets, and will be over with by the time we come to him going in the actual seat part of it.

NOMurDErousPLUME · 19/10/2006 11:58

I don't have an opinion on colour, it's more important to find one with the right features for you (good handle height? does it need to be lightweight? How small does it fold up ? etc). Once you've found the right buggy/pram then choose the fabric pattern you like most out of the manufacturers selection.

The only thing I will say in ref to the spills etc is make sure you either get a buggy with fully wipeable fabric, or one that you can take all the covers off and machine wash.

trixymalixy · 19/10/2006 12:01

It's a micralite with a carrycot we are buying as we need something lightweight that folds up small.

It's just the colour we are arguing about!!

I think I feel black is a bit dour as well (sorry nataliejane!!) so I guess I'm looking for practical reasons why red is better!!

who's going to be doing most of the pushing?
you perhaps?
red, it is then

NatalieJane · 19/10/2006 12:05

I fell in love with the pram for the fact that it is so lightweight, but DH is an avid Bolton supporter, who absolutely cannot stand Man Utd, so there was no way he would push a red buggy! (I know, how ridiculous...) but he isn't so keen on the shape of the frame so, I got my second choice of coulour, he got a pram he isn't overly keen on! Compromise!! LOL

trixymalixy · 19/10/2006 12:13

That's so funny NatalieJane, my DH is a Bolton fan too!!

i think I might just go ahead and buy it in red as it will be me that uses it most!

I think the Micralite is great because it's so lightweight as well. I know loads of people who have these massive 3 wheeler things that weigh a ton, which just seems mad to me!!

When are you due?

accessorizequeen · 19/10/2006 12:14

If you're keen on black, just buy a bright liner or cosytoes to go with it for post-carrycot days. JoJo have some nice ones. Anything will show up the spills if you can't wash the covers and/or don't put some sort of liner/sheepskin on it (but I didn't find this a problem until post-weaning, milk's not as bad to clean as crumbs of rice cake etc...).
But honestly, you will be pushing it more so if you want red, get red!

Tutter · 19/10/2006 12:15

i would say that in the early days black is a brisk due to milky puke

but most of the time more practical than lighter colours

mine (well, ds's) is black and is looking fine - he's 17mo

NatalieJane · 19/10/2006 13:49

Trixy, make sure you shop around, you can save £££'s if you look hard enough!

And DH's hatred for anything red goes way beyond prams, he actually tried to dismiss a perfectly good school for DS on the basis that the uniform included a red jumper....!

trixymalixy · 19/10/2006 17:27

I live in Glasgow and our house belonged to a celtic fan so everything is green, carpets, curtains, kitchen units, no blue anywhere so it's not just your DH that does that!!

I have found the newborn+ micralite on babyworld for £275 incl the footmuff (with 5% member discount, which seems pretty good to me. Did you manage to get it any cheaper?

OP posts:
cupsnakes · 19/10/2006 17:47

we've just chosen a black pram over a red one.

I felt that black would be less grubby over the years

and you can dress it up with coloured cosy toes

and it would be less likely to clash with any outfit I was wearing

NatalieJane · 19/10/2006 17:49

Is that with the car seat as well?

We bought ours from twoleftfeet, but we actually went to the shop in Bedford and took it home that day so didn't risk the crappy delivery that everyone has experienced with them. We got the buggy, carry cot, Maxi-Cosi Cabrio car seat, the car seat adaptors, and the foot muff for £330 It obviously comes with all the raincovers and everything included, so all we have bought extra was the carseat raincover and footmuff, and a changing bag. I think it is a really good buy. I think the best comparison is the Quinny Buzz, but that is much more expensive and has had some pretty shocking reviews.

vickiyumyum · 19/10/2006 18:09

i got my micralite newborn plus from an ebay seller (with a real pram shop_ for £220 it was babypages and it was the new olive colourway.

the only fault i can think of with the micralite theough (and it wasa biggy for me) is that the carrycot is quite small so lucy had grown out of it by 5 months and had to go into the seat but she was way too small for the seat and even in the recline she was really slouched, i feel shes too slouched in it now at 7 months but if i put it on the recline and use the footmuff that helps a bit and she looks a bit better, i have to say she doesn't complain in it and usually falls asleep but i just don't think she looks comfy!
but a good excuse to buy another buggy inbetween!

KellyKrueger1978 · 19/10/2006 18:20

I have a black emmaljunga, gets very dirty. It does look nicer than some of the lurid colours available at the moment. I jsut have to machine wash it once a month or so.

trixymalixy · 19/10/2006 21:45

Wow that does sound like a good deal nataliejane!

I'm too far away from bedford to nip into the shop though and I've read really bad things about their mail order service.

From babyworld it doesn't include the car seat, best I've found for that is 82.99 from baby days direct or something like that.

i had a look at the quinny buzz too, but didn't like it. My back isn't that great at the best of times so it just seemed really heavy to lift in and out of a car.

I'll have a look on ebay as well thanks for the info Vicki.

That's a bit disappointing about the carrycot still being quite small though as i thought the new ones were bigger.

LOL at clashing with outfits cupsnakes!! hadn't considered that!!
