Playtable for train set for DS (2yo)

Came up with the idea of a playtable for DS who's 2 soon. He loves the table in ELC and adores trains. But the Thomas one is way out of our price range. Woolworths have a great one for £49 including the wooden train set but it's a bit big for his bedroom (64 x 124 cm). Wondered if there were any smaller tables out there which are suitable - obviously don't want it to small to put a layout on.

And do you think they are necessary? I know boys often like to lie on the floor to play. I just like the idea of it all being set up for him to play with. Maybe I'll just take him in ELC every week.

I bought a piece of mdf from homebase ,they cut it to the size I wanted then I glued thin wooden strip things on the sides .I then put it on an old coffee table. It was convienent because the top comes off and can be put under the sofa or his bed.
But after all that he loves making huge train tracks now he's 4 and the table top is too small so it remains under the sofa.
I am quite glad I didn't fork out for a table now.

DS1 just used to make a huge layout on his bedroom floor, going across the room, under his bed, out the end etc - it used to stay there for weeks, getting tweaked occasionally. If your DS's room is big enough to have playspace and you'll be able to step across it when you're in there I'd do that

Ds loved his train table..was a big one though..only dismantled due to expecting no.3
will say they have to be a reasonable size to fit an interesting track on.
