Does anyone have one of the new octavias with either a 1.2 or 1.4 tsi engine?
Wondering if the 1.2 is powerful enough or if the 1.4 still has problems?

Thanks

The 1.2 is a decent engine. We've got it in a touran (should be about the same weight I wouldv'e thought) and it's fine for driving round town, bit sluggish above 60 in 6th on the motorway but does the job fine.

The 1.4 isn't the same engine as the TSFI which had the oil consumption problem. They've got rid of the suprcharcger and I've not heard anything particularly bad about them.

Possibly a bit of a slug once on the move and I'd be interested to see what the fuel consumption is like in the real world.

It's not to bad at all actually rich, fuel consumption is about 40mpg on a sensible motorway run at about 70.

We have a month old 1.4 tsi Octavia estate and I love it. On long runs (motorway at 70/75mph ish) or cross country on a & b roads I've had a minimum of 45mpg (my best was just shy of 49mpg). In the last couple of weeks where my driving is mostly short hops of 1-2 miles each around town, I'm still getting around 33-35mpg which i think for a car of that size is perfectly reasonable. We also have a diesel corsa and I think that overall the octavia gets within 10mpg of this - not bad for a much larger car that drinks petrol. Hopefully it will get better the more we run the car in too.

As RB says this is a completely different engine to the one that had the problems. We test drove the 1.2 and I have to say it did very well with 5 people in the car, but the 1.4 certainly has the extra shove. To be honest, it pulls so well from about 1500pm that I don't really need to rev it particularly but it's nice to know the power is there if you need it. It picks up really well in gear too - slightly strange knowing that you can easily overtake just by dropping from 6th to 5th gear!
