Homeopathic treatment for reflux

babynotburp · 02/01/2015 10:06

My 15 week old has pretty bad reflux. He is growing well and reaching all his milestones but I'd love to be able to help him.

The doctor suggested infant gaviscon but I wasn't keen due to the constipation.

Someone said you can get a homeopathic remedy from boots which works well.

I can't remember the name of it. I think it started with a c.

Has anyone tried this and had any success. Was it also easy to administer?

Thanks xConfused

Fennel tea isn't homeopathic medicine though. It's herbal medicine. Herbal medicines can be very useful. Not homeopathic, it's cruel to treat a baby with made up medicine.

it tells me that youve jumped on a thread that you know nothing about, thats about nothing lifethreatening, and mistaking somebody elses choices, as your business.

Branleuse · 02/01/2015 11:22

its colic. Its not cancer

GraysAnalogy · 02/01/2015 11:22

Colic and reflux are two different things.

Colic is excessive crying in babies with no apparent reason
Reflux is acid coming up from the stomach entering the oesophagus.
People often mix up the two

A small dose of omeprazole is often prescribed for babies with reflux.

Branleuse · 02/01/2015 11:23

anyway, over and out.
Hope the remedies i suggested help OP. If they dont, maybe see if your doctor can suggest anything?

Fennel tea is fine, my two liked it but i didnt put any sugar in it. Homeopathy is huge in europe and the states, just not here. I dont know how it does or dosent work but after every intervention possible for my daughters glue ear from conventional medicine, homeopathy cleared it up within a month. I dont think homeopathy is nto be used completly as an alternative but rather alongside conventional medicine if things done seem to work etc. Even in some mixes dont work for your baby it certainly wont harm them.

AND if it really is such nonence then why does the NHS plough so much money into it and funding the London hospital etc?

GraysAnalogy · 02/01/2015 11:27

For adults, the placebo effect can be beneficial. However for babies and children - it doesn't work.

She's not talking about something natural Branlouse, she talking about something that was 'natural' that has been diluted so there's nothing natural left in it.

GraysAnalogy · 02/01/2015 11:28

And herbalism is different to homeopathy.

The NHS readily admits that there is no evidence it works, BUT they appreciate that the placebo affect can help some people.

DoctorDonnaNoble · 02/01/2015 11:31

The NHS still funds homeopathy against medical advice. It was 'decided' in the NHS act which also cut loads of funding. It was a controversial act for many reasons but was barely covered in the media.

Branleuse · 02/01/2015 11:31

You are frothing at the mouth for what??

She asked what homeopathic treatment she should try. I gave her an idea of what often works, for a bit of baby reflux/ colic.

get over it.

Noones asking you to use it or believe in it. It is not a slippery slope into witchcraft and people refusing all conventional medicine forevermore.

As people have said:

Homeopathy is just water

Herbal remedies can work well

Medicine is proven to work

Also the placebo effect does work on babies

differentnameforthis · 02/01/2015 11:46

Branleuse It doesn't work, how can it? really!

People are saying this to op to prevent her form wasting her time & money on something that is unlikely to yield any positive results for her baby.

The reason the 'drugs' work is because they are tested & proven to work.

Knowing what I know I would never give my money to homoeopaths, because I can get what they are selling from my taps.

differentnameforthis · 02/01/2015 11:56

You suggested HERBAL remedies. VERY different to homoeopathic remedies.

If you knew as much as you claim, you would know that!
