Does anyone use a dvd by post rental service?
Codswallop · 17/04/2004 19:43
I wonder if anyone can recommend them
cannot face another summer of casualty or holby crappy
philippat · 17/04/2004 19:52
I got dh a sunscription to lovefilm.com for Xmas and he seems to really love it
- prompt
- worth the money if you get one a week or so
- only had one dvd that 'stuck' a bit
- enormous choice (pretty much any dvd ever made)
- you create a list in the order you want it, and can bung new choices in at any point in the list, we've never not got the one at the top of the list (but possibly this is because dh likes obscure films)
- comes with a freepost envelope to send back

I use lovefilm.com too and they are absolutely SUPERB! Can't recommend them enough. Very fast and efficient, great catalogue (as philippat says, just about everything released on DVD including some very obscure stuff), great value for money.
Janh · 17/04/2004 19:56
We use lovefilm too - we get 2 at a time for £14.99 a month. If you watch and return quickly you can get about 16 a month for that. (But then again if you really like something you can keep it for ages - we had the Office for 2 weeks recently.)
Janh · 17/04/2004 19:57
OTOH I have been waiting for Calendar Girls for weeks. Don't think that happens at Blockbuster.
WideWebWitch · 17/04/2004 21:56
Off topic but Janh, did you like The Office then? IIRC you hadn't seen it before had you? We watched it the other night before I started work, which was possibly a mistake since I could easily have spent my first day sniggering...but anyway, Coddy, I registered for Blockbuster by post but never got around to using it and then we moved so we had video shops nearby. I think you can try it without any obligation can't you? I think you pay for that rental but you don't ever have to rent again if you don't want to.
Janh · 17/04/2004 22:52
Oh, that wasn't me, www, that was the boys, sniggering away! I still didn't watch it - may have to get it yet again...(but dooo tell us about the job or have you already, did I miss it?)
With Lovefilm you get 2 weeks free trial after you register coddy but doubt you would exert yourself to cancel - it is very satisfying and they do have huge choice (much better than local shops).

GeorginaA · 18/04/2004 10:05
Georgina's top tip: If you're following a series or want a set of disks in a particular order, only have the first disk on your list, otherwise there's a risk you may receive them out of order.
Wait until you've had the first of the series delivered, then go in to your rental queue and put disk 2 at the top of the queue. Repeat until entire series seen

Actually Coddy I don't but I did post a question about it recently as am thinking of using it. Tesco do quite a cheap one.
