Ok, we are getting a 7 seater. I think we are leaning more towards the zafira, as the seats fold completely flat in the floor and are there if we need them. They are also more reliable in the whatcar survey and on the autotrader website. However, the galaxys are cheaper and there looks a SLIGHTY bigger boot and more leg room, but didn't do as well in the reliability tests.

We have about £9,000 to spend on one, so it will be a used one anyway but hopefully only one thats just a couple of years old.

Would appreciate views from anyone who has got either of these. Thanks

Hi, I can't give advice on the ford galaxy as I have never owned one, but I got a new Zafira about 3 months ago and I can't praise it enough!

I love the boot space you have when just the standard seats are used, and putting the 2 spare seats in use is so easy and I am disabled and can still manage this myself.

Hope this helps a bit

AnAngelWithin · 10/10/2006 12:34

Thanks for that. Thats good. Anyone else?

found the Zafira brilliant
Mil could get in and out.
confy for grown ups/kids.
Big boot (dd disabled so loads of room for wheelchair)
I looked at both and thought the zafira was best

NOMurDErousPLUME · 10/10/2006 12:49

Isn;t the Zafira smaller than the Galaxy ?

AnAngelWithin · 10/10/2006 12:50

yes it is. it looks more 'car' like than the galaxy

We have a Zafira and it's great - we also looked at the Galaxy's but found that they were more expensive than the Zafira's - ours was 6 months old, had 5k on the clock and cost us £9000, we couldn't have got a Galaxy for that. they changed the shape on the Zafira last August, so you can get an 'old' shape one very reasonably.

we wanted seats that folded down too and the Zafira ticked that box, but you do have to be fairly agile to climb into the very back seats so don't expect great granny to be able to do it, and there isn't much boot space with all 7 seats, enough for an umbrella fold pushchair and a few coats/wellies.

It's also slightly narrower than our old Mondeo, so it fitted up the drive, we looked at a Kia sedona but would ahve had to knock the front wall down to get it up the sloping drive!

Hope that helps!

We went for galaxy because it is bigger and all the seats are big proper ones if you see what I mean. There is loads of boot space if the back seats are folded, we only take them out for summer holiday. From folded they are easy to get up. Down sides to me guzzles petrol and reapirs are expensive but don't have experience of zafira so don't know if thats any different.

Another vote for a Galaxy here. Bought ours 6 months ago and has been fab. We have the back 2 seats folded up nearly all the the time and that makes loads of room for shopping, bikes, scooters, buggies etc. We also have the middle seat of the middle row out most of the time as this gives our children more room inbetween them and stops them bashing each other etc.
Have had all 7 seats full as well (for hen weekend) and still plenty of room for everyone + their luggage for a weekend away.

I don't know anything about the Zafira but I know DH did lots of research into best people carrier and plumped for the Galaxy.

A word of warning - you will get lumbered with driving duties when everyone finds out you've got a seven seater!

We have a zafira - it's been very reliable (and it is very boring )

lucycat · 10/10/2006 13:26

Ours has Vauxhall roofbars on it that I wangled out of the dealer - 'roofbars or no deal mister' -

makes it much easier to spot in the supermarket car park

muma3 · 10/10/2006 13:37

have a zafira and the downfall is that you have to get everyone out and put midlle seats forward if you are unexpectedly lumbered with another passenger so that you can put back seats up iyswim. needs planning and i suggest leaving seats up all the time espes if you have a baby seat , then you have to take it out to put back seats up then put it back in etc etc bit of a pain

AnAngelWithin · 10/10/2006 13:55

dont you have to do that with the galaxy as well though to get to the back row of seats?

AnAngelWithin · 10/10/2006 14:04

DH wants a silver zafira as he said it wont show up the scrathes as much!! I told him that they are very popular but he doesn't care!

I have yet to pass my test so it won't be me thats nominated for driving duty yet thats for sure!!

Ours is a 1.8 and it uses far less petrol than our 1.8 Mondeo used to, but then again dh used to say it had 'a fantastic engine' whatever that meant!
