I'm thinking of getting a new cooker, as we're moving house son (hopefully!!!)

Would love a range cooker, with two ovens (i like cooking!!!) and at least 5 gas burners... with a wok burner too!!!! (i know not fussy am i?)

been looking at the baumatic range and have seena nice one but... have got loads of questions so hopefully someone out there is a Range cooker expert!!!

are fan/electric ovens as good as gas!? (i've always thought not!)

would you prefer one big oven or one medium and one small?

what makes of range cookers are the ones to go for?

can anyone out there help???

thanks!

Which? magazine did a feature on range cookers recently (one before last I think). We're buying the Flavel Leisure one as it came out as a best buy and its a reasonable price. Worth looking at the Which? though. It has other helpful information as well.

I had a very old model of the Flavel Leisure and it was brilliant. Unfortunately I moved to a flat with a smaller kitchen and had to leave it behind. Still see that model in secondhand shops so I think they last forever! The one I had had a large oven and a small oven, also a griddle plate for burgers and fry-ups. Don't think wok burners had been invented then!

There is an archive thread on this bea. Robinw, yes these are different because they are not solid fuel varities - coal, wood, oil (yes I know sometimes Gas) and they do not do central heating or water as well.

Bea I have a Baumatic Stainless Steel range, prior to this a Falvel Lesiure and really could not fault it, and one medium oven and one small EVERYTIME, I miss that with the Baumatic, I know that Baumatic comes in either version, unfortunately because we have no natural gas the only version they do for bottled is the one oven variety.

The Baumatic - my version, gets unbearably hot all over even the knobs to use the hob get red hot - design fault? oven is not self cleaning as with the Falvel Leisure so I have guilt everytime I open my Baumatic - as I havent had the burst of energy required to clean it yet, I keep hoping that it will go away!.

So I would go for the Falve Leisure again if I had the Choice.

sorry thats Flavel Leisure _ (Night sshift typing skills).

thanks charliesmummy... oh dear you seem to have made me think a little more about the baumatic now, even though it's still the one i like the look of...

looked at the archive thread but this dealt with agas and rayburns rather than the 'range cooker' with gas hobs and evrything... anyone else out there have any recs??? thinking about 'stoves' range as well... decisions decisions....

bea - good luck - I do know what you mean the Baumatic is very -- um sexy? - now I know that I am bonkers, finding a cooker sexy!. My friend has the 2 oven variety and it does not get as hot as mine, although the knobs still do.

Can recommend the Falcon range - it is really great.
