Have you brought a Ikea mattress for your DC and if so, would you recommend it?

We're hoping to buy the Hemnes bunk beds from ikea. The frames are the easy part, I'm just not sure what mattress to go for. I am looking to buy a sprung one, not a foam one.
They seem a very resonable price. However, do you go for soft or medium? I know what I'd like to sleep on, but what is suitable for DS1 who is 3y/o?!

Thanks for any advice.

we bought one from the sultan range for ds, TBH it's not the comfiest and he doesn't sleep that well on it. he's getting a new one soon, but not ikea. he's 5.

Thanks for your reply, as it was one of the Sultan ranges we were just looking at!

Only had the foam ones I'm afraid - now on its second child (junior bed) - will probably replace it for the third.

Ditto I have have foam ones until we have no maor accidents as they are easier to dry out and cheap to replace.

dd's bed came with a foam one that smelled of hamsters (and it's mother was an elderberry for all I know)

Not impressed
