I bought dh a samsung in Argos about £70. IMO there are more important things to spend my money on since dc than whether he has the v best model - they all play music fgs!!

ring John Lewis and ask for the electronics dept - they are ace with advice on this ytpe of thing - they even explained in detail to me why there was a £10 difference in two types of iPod speakers and it all made perfect sense!

they may all play music but the ipods look s fantastic!

multitasker · 06/10/2006 10:15

Ofcourse - where would we be without our DH ()Just don't stress about it too much, you really shouldn't have to spend more than £100 for something good.

foxinsocks · 06/10/2006 10:17

at the moment, I would say no ipod is good. We are just about to send our 3rd one back again - I must say, their service is good (you get a 12 month warranty) but every single one we have had has died on us (sad ipod icon!).

foxinsocks · 06/10/2006 10:18

the problem is that once you go down the apple/ipod route and put all your music on itunes, you are very much stuck with them!

Enid · 06/10/2006 10:20

ooh I love ours

and I tunes

foxinsocks · 06/10/2006 10:22

yes I like itunes - it's just a shame we can't get the ipods to work for longer than a few months ggrrr

Got my techie 75yr old dad an ipod nano & he was over the moon. Like a kid with a favourite toy, he has it with him all the time.

foxinsocks · 06/10/2006 10:25

well I don't know if it has changed with the newer ipods but basically you have to put the MP3s into itunes first because the ipod doesn't play MP3s directly - it only plays its own formatted music through itunes

(please correct me if this has changed with the newest ipods as we only have the older ones)

Enid · 06/10/2006 10:26

they will play all mp3s I think

I don't think the perfect MP3 player exists but ipod's been good for all of us. Don't mind about being restricted to itunes.

foxinsocks · 06/10/2006 10:31

I think it depends what format they are in - don't think they play WMA files

Enid · 06/10/2006 10:31

I tunes radio transmitter to listen to it in the car (if you dont live in a big town otherwise reception is impossible)

OR cassette player thingy (again so you can listen in car)

'skin' to protect it (although we never use ours)

and docking station to use it around the house

gscrym · 06/10/2006 10:32

If you definately want an Ipod, if you buy it through Apples site, they'll engrave a little message on the back of it. They do that for free but I'm not sure how the price compares with other places.
I think the Nanos look lovely. You can get loads of gadgets to go with the IPods. The only thing I would worry about is the size of them. They're so tiny. I've dropped my Zen MP3 playerso many times, I don't think the dinky little nano would stand up to it.
