Is there any difference? Are they worth it? Didn't bother with dd1 but thinking about getting one for dd2

I got the bumbo. It got some use but not all that much considering the price. If you can get one 2nd hand go for it

dd loves her bumbo, well worth the money, the baby pod looks hard (plastic) the bumbo is foam.

I got a great bumbo from e-bay - fantastic condition and a fraction of the price.

DD had a bumbo and loved it. It was ideal for the stage when she could sit but couldn't really get anywhere iykwim. Allowed me time to have my hands free when she wanted to sit up and I couldn't hold her anymore..!!

i had a bumbo and didn't get much use out of it. DS was quite active and i think felt constrained by it. he preferred to be supported with cushions.

Stiglet - DD never really took to her bumbo but was sitting up from about 4 mths herself anyway so I think she liked to "do it on her own" kind of thing. She used to pull and push to try and get free and I was convinced she would! I ended up selling it almost brand new as a result.

Some people swear by them though. Like TB said, I'd look for one second hand as they are so expensive new and if you LO doesn't like it, it's been an expensive 'mistake' (am sure we all know about them where kids of concerned!).

Hmm think you've made my mind up not to bother (dh wants to buy one!) DD1 was always happy sat propped in her nest and sat on her own quite early too, was worried the bumbo would discourage this.

I bought bumbo one when ds was v small as I really liked the idea of him being safe and contained while I was cooking. At the time they claimed it was a baby sitter and showed pictures of children being fed on a high table sitting in them. DS could escape from it within seconds. I took it back to Mothercare and got a refund. I also contacted the company direct. I think they have different pics now and have a disclaimer saying some children will be able to escape.

Pixi - I didn't like to say anything before, but I took DD out of it quite quickly as, as I said I am pretty sure she too would have been able to get out of it. I've heard quite a few stories of this too....

But there are people who think they are great so I suppose it's personal choice/depends on your child....

shhhh · 04/10/2006 15:51

piximom, what makes me laugh is the picture on the front is still of a baby on a table being fed in it...BUT a disclaimer says its not to be placed on a worktop/table..! Hmmm...!!!

Well that was what my box looked like over a year ago...

Twohoots · 04/10/2006 16:52

shhh - yep my box was the same!
