Need to get a cheap pushchair for skint friends - any ideas?

Have friends who are expecting in 3 weeks and have got virtually nothing for the baby. My friend has leukeamia and has been very ill so her partner hasn't been able to work so to try and help a bit I thought we'd get them a pushchair. So basically need the best value pushchair around, haven't really got any ideas myself and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations?

can you get one second hand? Try e.g. Freeads, Fridayads.

Ebay is often v expensive - almost as much as buying new in some cases.

why not try the charity shops or the local ads in the paper?

sometimes you can find a good bargain there.

also there is a maternity grant available if they have a low income, I'm sure.

good luck, it's nice your trying to help them out.

I got a one from toys r us that was £60 suitable from birth and included footmuff and raincover. Great for young babies and older toddlers. It is a stroller though so if she was wanting a proper pushchair they can be at least £100

If I saw a wanted ad for one in local shop window I would respond as I needed to give one away so could you/your friend try that?

Got mine at a car boot sale but they can be a bit yuckky - so you have to be lucky.

second hand on ebay is exp, but there are lots of cheap ones on there too. How much do you want to spend?

anchovies · 26/09/2006 16:14

Thanks for the ideas, toys r us one sounds good and will try freeads. Have been checking the charity shops for them for a while and no luck so far, but will keep looking and will check out the wanted ad idea.

Nemo1977 · 26/09/2006 16:27

toys r us one

Pinkchampagne · 26/09/2006 16:28

I have the babydan stolkholm buggy & have been really impressed with it.
It is suitable from birth, has a head rest & padded harness, reclines in 5 positions, has a raincover, good suspention & is anti-tip, so you can hang bags on the handles without the worry that the pushchair will tip back.
You can buy then brand new on ebay for the buy it now price of £45.99! The RRP is over £100!

Nemo1977 · 26/09/2006 16:28

oo that second one by bramshott looks good and bargain price.Doesnt say anything about a raincover though so may be worth checking out.

misdee · 26/09/2006 16:31

if your friends are on benefits thenthey should be entitled to the maternity grant (it was £500 when i had dd3)

for just over £100 you can get the mothercare maxin, which is sturdy, big, but lovely. comes with head huigger for a baby and an apron.

MerlinsBeard · 26/09/2006 16:32

Just seen this one in an Argos flyer - seems like a fantastic deal - carseat, pushchair, raincover, cosy toes, changing bag, shopping basket and fly bag (whatever that may be) for £99.99. Seems like a great deal to me!!
