Where can you buy reasonably price girls clothes that aren't styled for teenagers?

Should add FGS on the end of that.

Just been through the Next directory - YUK

M&S - YUK

BHS (Tammy Girl) - YUK

Everything is cut for skinny teenagers not normal-sized 7 year olds who have a little tummy. Also hate the "whatever" attitude clothing.

DD is getting disheartened trying on clothes that don't do up and she is by no means overweight just doesn't have a teenage figure. She's going to get a complex at this rate.

Where are the normal pretty clothes?

gap usually aren't too bad
pumpkin patch
h and m

PandaG · 25/09/2006 10:38

my DD is 4.5, I am realising that I will soon have the same problem, will watch this thread with interest. Younger girls clothes are usually ok, but when the go to the 4-10 age bracket the clothes are far too tarty.

multitasker · 25/09/2006 10:48

I sympathise - I have a 7yr old and trying to find nice pretty clothes is really difficult. Try mixing bits from dirrerent stores. I buy from Tescos, Sainsburys, Primark and (probably only in Irel) Dunnes Stores. They are all quite good valer as I don' have huge budget.

Agree with Hana.
They are the best on the high street IMO.
On-line, I really like Vertbaudet (they have some great things this season) and La Redoute.

Tesco have some lovely things too although they have jumped on the slogan bandwagon with some of their items, "I maybe naughty but god I'm cute".

fattiemumma · 25/09/2006 10:57

I agree about this seasons NEXT...there is not a single item in there i want to buy.

i really like H&m for some funky but not too attitudey clothes.
Debenhams have some great ranges ( i love tiger lilly) for the realy pretty stuff

but best bargain at the mo has to be ASDA i just bought a tonne of clothes for my DD who is just 2. there is a whole range of spotty stuff which is really cute and i dont think i single item is more than about £8

foundintranslation · 25/09/2006 11:02

try this German co - will deliver to the UK afaik

KBear · 25/09/2006 11:21

I will check these out but I have found that most of the supermarket stuff still has the "I've got a bad attitude and I don't care" logos on which I HATE.

The problem is the fit, jeans are cut skinny, combats are drop-waisted and DD finds it uncomfortable because she doesn't have a waist.

H&M is more my budget than Pumpkin Patch but will mooch around them all and see.

There used to be Gymboree at Bluewater but it closed, I loved that shop - great sales. Will have a look online. Thanks

Have you tried The Children's Warehouse ? ot cheap but not as pricey as some and the clothes are a bit more traditional and good quality

cardy · 25/09/2006 11:53

H & M definately and SOME next clothes others are miniture adult clothes.

Kelly1978 · 25/09/2006 11:55

I love that german site!

MAckays sometimes has nice things too, more trad styling. No idea what current range is liek. Also, monsoon?

KTeepee · 25/09/2006 12:13

I disagree about H&M - very good for little girls but vile from about 7 upwards (at least my local one is) - far too teenagy. I think you have to hunt around and buy things here and there as you see them. Haven't bought any winter clothes yet but dd (9) got some summer stuff at Pumkin Patch, Zara, Gap and Next (basic jeans and shorts only though).

Earlybird · 25/09/2006 12:25

Second the Zara suggestion, though with the caveat that I haven't gone there since spring so no idea what their autumn/winter selection is like.

JollyRogerMamaG · 25/09/2006 13:48

Thanks for this thread KBear, I also find it difficult to buy nice pretty clothes for a 7 year old DD with a little tummy! I'm watching this thread with interest

KBear · 25/09/2006 14:02

Hello me old mate - once pay day comes around {grin] I will be off on a mission I will be posting my findings!

I don't want princessy, fluffy, overly pink stuff but the "Fashion" is appalling at the moment. My friend's DD is 10 and has shot up recently, is getting a nice figure and can carry off the trendy gear but I want neutral stuff for DD, nice plain skirts, maybe cord, with tights and boots, pretty t-shirts with horses on or applique flowers. I hate to say it but the clothes around are slutty (insert [sound like my mother emoticon])!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

KBear, your wish list for dd sounds like you ought to be buying mini Boden... Wait for the next sale if your budget is, as you say, more like H&M.
My dd is 7 too, and I'd like her to stay a little girl for longer, thank you very much, high street shops. I so agree with you about the fashions for girls. Either overly sugary and too pink, or "knowingly" overaged for children that age.
Is there an outlet centre near you ? I'm in london and last year went to Bicester Village for the day - budget Monsoon, Petit bateau, Ralph Lauren etc. I got all 4 choldren kitted out very stylishly for the winter at a great price, even allowing for the cost of petrol there and back.

KBear · 25/09/2006 14:20

ooh mini Boden - never looked there - finally I'll be in a MN clique! Deffo have to be the sale though, the rate that clothes get ruined by ice cream or whatever! I'm in SE London so have all the shops at my fingertips, including Lakeside and Bluewater, but it's all so trashy (or too expensive at Bluewater!). DD is growing out of clothes every 3 months at the moment, it's got to be affordable and disposable if it gets ruined!

OP posts:
KBear · 25/09/2006 14:26

Just had a look at mini-Boden - like a lot of it - prices not as bad as I thought they'd be but when you need to kit them out for winter it's going to add up. Will drum fingers waiting for sale.

I think h& m are rally fab and really good value for money.

KBear · 25/09/2006 14:53

I always loved H&M for baby and toddler stuff but went off the older girls stuff. Haven't been for a while so will have another look.

OP posts:
kittywits · 25/09/2006 17:14

What age group are you buying for. I think it looks fine right up until the older girls/ teenagers, then it doesn't look so cute, but it wouldn't do I guess!

kittywits · 25/09/2006 17:15

Sorry, you already said it was for a 7 year old [opps, well I think hennes should be fine, not at all trashy

serenity · 25/09/2006 17:22

If you can get to Bluewater etc, have you tried the branch of Matalan near you?

We've just had one open near us, and I was surprised how nice some of the clothes were - I didn't look to hard at older girls I must admit, but there was some nice stuff for DDs age.
