We've had our customary letter from dear stepson, telling us what he wants for his birthday, which is next week.

2 pairs of jeans, Navy and Black, 30" waist 36" length.

Tried Next, and M&S, don't shop at trendy stores myself (being an older mum), can you solve this for me please?

Gap normally have 36" leg jeans. Depends where you are and how big the branch is.

Moomin · 21/09/2006 21:31

you can get some of the Next men's jeans online with 36 leg but most stores won't have on the racks as such. Agree also about Gap. dh gets most of his jeans there.

WestCountryLass · 21/09/2006 21:45

Gap!

clumsymum · 21/09/2006 21:50

oh blimey, I'll get kicked out of gap, a middle aged woman on a mobility scooter.

Nottingham's store isn't particularly big, cross your fingers for me. Need to post the parcel on Monday morning.

Just another question :- Would landsend jeans be just too uncool for a 24 year-old with rock musician tendencies?

Tell him 3/4 lengths are all the rage.

No I couldn't ...

Bless him, he has autism, and is coping wonderfully with his independent life (in sheltered accommodation). That's why he writes a letter saying specifically what he wants, and I try to get it right.

This year the request is (I quote exactly) ...

" a couple of new jeans (1 black and 1
navy blue) (size 30W + 36L) and a couple of sweatshirts (size:small).(couple
means 2)."

You can get 36" leg at Matalan I'm pretty sure - their own label jeans are about £8 (honest!) and they also have eg Lee Cooper but they cost more. They have hundreds of jeans. You might need to get someone else to rummage for you, there is a nice wide path round the middle but if you get off it space is a bit tight.

clumsymum · 21/09/2006 22:08

Wow cheers Ursula. We have a Matalan quite near us, but I've only ever been in there once (actually as a mystery shopper).

I was wondering how much jeans would be in Gap, as 2 pairs of jeans and 2 decent sweatshirts could come to quite a lot I think, and we like to give him a voucher to add to his cd/dvd collection too if we can.

Another one for Gap

UrsulatheSeaWitch · 21/09/2006 22:12

Matalan have some nice sweatshirts too sometimes - lots of sporty labels all the time but sometimes others too.

Another good inexpensive place for things like sweatshirts (but not jeans) is Sports Soccer/Sports World, but they would both be terrible with a scooter, they're bad enough on foot. They had masses of YSL stuff at very reasonable prices a couple of months ago and they do sell other non-sporty labels eg Ocean Pacific.

clumsymum · 22/09/2006 09:30

Right, been on the phone this morning.

Matalan, "no only up to 34 inch"
Gap "No we don't stock a 30/36 "

John Lewis "Not much in jeans, we only have 30/32"

Arghhhhh

Lemonaid, we're doing the same searches on yell.com I think !

I'm now holding on the phone at the 8th store, and a voice in my head is shouting "Give it up Ma!"

I think I'm going to order LandsEnd, who will hem to the required length.

Oh, I'm sorry about the matalan jeans, cm - they definitely used to because I bought a pair once (a long time ago admittedly).

I tried High & Mighty but they start at 32". extratall.co.uk have links to other sites which sell tall stuff but you've probably tried all those.

The thing is I always used to wear men's jeans and I had to get 36" leg - so where have they gone?

clumsymum · 22/09/2006 11:14

The thing that gets me is I know we bought him some jeans last year, and he must have stopped growing by now, so how come the shops have all stopped doing the long length.

And how does everyone else manage? I have this inkling doubt in my mind that the woman who answered the phone at Gap gave me duff info, but I'm not going to trail into town on the off chance.

Right, so the jeans problem is solved, now I've got to get sweatshirts (local outlet centre for those. And while I'm out, I need to get a good Kagoul for ds who is 7, and going to Beaver Scout camp tomorrow.

Kids, who would have them?

lemonaid · 22/09/2006 11:57

Mine weren't actually on yell.com but on some site about where to buy fashion items -- but probably they all pull their information from the same database.

Glad it's sorted now, anyway.

clumsymum · 22/09/2006 12:10

Meant to say "TVM" by the way !!
