Qashquai- what's this light?

I've just got a new (to us!) Nissan Qashquai, and it's the first time I've had a car with keyless ignition.

On the dashboard is a little red flashing car with a key symbol in it . What does this mean?

I've tried googling and am more confused than ever. Some sites suggest its a fault whilst others say its just the immobiliser.

Can anybody shed any light please?

It's just a warning that the key is in the car, or at least close enough for the car to be started. It's to alert you to take the key with you if you're getting out of the car (why people take keys out of their pockets on a car with keyless entry/start I have no idea).

Hmmm that's odd cos the key isn't anywhere near the car and it's still flashing!?

RTFM!

Then it's probably just indicating the immobiliser is active.

As ramrod said, the owner's manual will explain all the telltale/warning lights.

Ramrod - GSFM!

WMittens thanks for your help!
