3 child seats in back of medium size hatchback

I know the issue of 3 child seats in back of medium size hatchback has been done to death on the internet, so I apologise for that.

My research on the internet has let me to believe the following:

  1. It is likely to be possible to have 3 backless boosters in the back of most cars. However these offer less protection than high back, or infant 5 point harness.
  1. MPVs like Renault Scenics and Citroen C4s have 3 distinct seats in the back so likely to be able to have 3 child seats. But not everyone likes this style of car.
  1. I found uncertainty as to whether the more popular medium hatchback cars like Ford Focus, VW Golf, or Opel Astras will allow 3 child seats in the back. For example, there is a Which test (article available on internet if you google) that suggests that Astra's allow 3 seats in the back, but Focus's don't.
  1. However i have found theads on the internet that suggest that its possible to get 3 child seats in the back of Focus's but not Astras. So im confused.

So I would be grateful if anyone can advise if they have ever seen 3 child seats in the back of a Golf, Focus, Astra or similar model. Preferably in a 2010 or newer car.

I dont want to wait till I have a new car before going to Tony Kealy's or Eurobaby to test if/what 3 car seats work together.

Thanks

When you say 'three seats' do you mean two toddler sized seats plus an infant seat or three toddler seats?

I tried to give my friend a lift in DH's VW Golf and couldn't fit two toddlers plus newborn in.

I did manage it in my BMW X3 without too much trouble. It is noticeably bigger than the Golf though.

A parent from school who I see in a 61 plate focus has three in the back but not sure if it is on backless boosters or high backed. At least one must be a hbb as the child is still in nursery.

So it must fit at least 2x backless boosters plus one hbb.

we had 3 child seats in the back of our Citroen Berlingo. Would have been 2 toddler types and 1 baby carry type at one stage as well.

I am not looking at backless boasters.

I dont think there is much difference between toddler, infant, or high back seats as i think they can all be about 45cm wide.

3 will go in the back of a golf, never tried with the focus but I doubt it would have, struggled with two and a dog tbh.

I found that there was a bit of a difference with an infant seat because the moulded plastic comes up so high it pressed on the door handle so it wouldn't shut iyswim?

I think 3 normal style toddler seats would go in the Golf but the door just wouldn't shut with the infant seat.
