Paperwhite wifi and 3G?

I've just updated my kindle from the old keyboard version to the paperwhite wifi and 3G. I don't need to be connected to the internet all the time, so in order to keep the the charge for longer I wondered if there's a way of turning wifi and 3G off and only connecting when I need to?!

On the homepage (where you have all your titles) look at the bar at the top.
On the right hand side there are three horizontal lines. Click on them: go down to setting and you can put it in aeroplane mode from there.
