Stair gates and cats

We have an elderly cat that is not going to be able to jump over a stair gate. Can anyone suggest a solution. I have found a pet gate in the States that has a "cat flap" in it but can't find anything similar in the UK. Any ideas?

Many thanks

she'll probably be able to get through the bars won't she?

My very old and fairly fat cat used to squeeze through the bars...

not if its as fat as our cat!

Our cat will jump over the stairgate to the room where her food is but won't attempt the one at the top of the stairs.Could you see if she'll go over it if food is there to tempt her?

Our cat won't go through or jump, she just sits next to it scratching the carpet and miaowing until one us slaves comes to open it. Doesn't normally take long. The carpet doesn't look too hot around the stairgate!

Sorry no clever advice!

Our cat wouldn't squeeze through bars - we had one across the kitchen door which we placed high enough so that the cat could squeeze underneath but the baby couldn't, one across the bottom of the stairs where the cat could jump onto the window sill and then down the other side of the stairgate ... and then we had dh's stairgate-with-a-cat-hole. It was a wooden one, to fit across the French windows where we had a catflap - dh cut a square out of it by taking out several inches from a couple of the poles, then used the spare pieces across the cut ends to square off the hole he'd cut out. He always said that there's a gap in the market for stairgates with cat-flaps in them!

my cat used to squeeze through the bannisters instead of the gate - and he's a big boy
