Get a new screen for my Keyboard Kindle or buy a new Kindle?

I've managed to crack the screen of my much loved Keyboard Kindle and need assistance deciding what to do. The options are:

  1. Replace the screen - rather than attempt it myself (£35ish if I managed not to break the new screen!) I'd probably end up paying just under £60ish for this (including postage costs).
  1. Buy a new Kindle for £59, although I'd also need to buy a case so that would push the cost up a bit... This seems like the obvious choice really but I'm wary due to poor reviews I've read about it.
  1. Buy a Kindle Paperwhite. I thought my Keyboard Kindle had died 6 months ago and was pleased I'd have the excuse to get one as I loved the idea of being able to read it in bed without having the lights on, and then I read poor reviews about it and was relieved to discover my Kindle just needed a hard reset!

Financially I can stretch to buying the Paperwhite (just) but would probably be restricted to reading freebies only for a while to manage it!

I've now been without a Kindle for over a month and really want/need to make a decision - any thoughts/advice gratefully received!
