Is it possible to get a phone on contract and then use with your current sim card (i.e. pay as you go)and can it work out cheaper becuase of all the deals around?

Well not really because you'll still have to pay your monthly line rental on a contract so if you then
put a pay as you go sim card on your phone you will have to pay for these calls which are usually more expensive than contract calls per minute. Usaully on contract you get lots of free minutes as well.

well what i was thinking is I have a compnay phone which not very good however they do pay all the calls, so i was wanting to buy a new phone, all the good ones seem to be at least £150 so I was wondering whether it was possible to get a contract phone with free line rental perhaps and actually save money?

I think contract phones only do 6 months half price line rental or 3 months free normally I don't think there's any contracts that have free line rental for 12 months or that would make them pay as you go lol. I have a deal with 3 which is 6 months half price line rental and 6 months full price so I think you'd probably need to work out the cost. Even with 6 months half price line rental my yearly rental charges work out at around £300 and that's without call costs and my phone would cost £250 to buy so I don't really think you'd save any money.

www.mobileclub7.com are offering 12 month free line rental

going rate for line rental is about £17-£30 with talktime and txts etc so you'd be better off just buying a phone and using your sim card in that

Janbo25 · 06/09/2006 16:04

there are defo some deals worth considering though out there

I bet the 12 month free line rental is on an 18 month contract though so you'll still have to pay for 6 months rental.

Just looked at that site and the phone that is 12 months free line rental (you have to pay the rental then get a refund every 6 months) is actually only £30 to buy although it is free in the end you'll still have to fork out £30 a month until you get the refund. Tbh i'd stick with buying a phone and doing payg.

Should have said the phone that was 12 months free on a 12 month not 18 month contract.
