Dh is just taking dd into town to buy her mobile for starting secondary school on tues. They have this one for thruppence ha'penny in Woolworths. It's cheap, but is it too cheap?

Is it pink?

fairyfly · 02/09/2006 11:27

Anyway, mine was fab, just simple, but i liked it.

I have a sagem and it's fine tbh (not a really cheap one, but not a super expensive one either). A little more complicated to use than a nokia, but it won't take your dd long to work it all out. The phone itself is fine for what I need it for.

It's lilac, ff, which is obviously the most important thing as far as dd is concerned. I think it's about £30, and that includes about £15 of talk time or something.

Thanks for your verdicts, ladies. Of course, I don't trust dh's judgement in any retail matters at all. But if mumsnet says it's ok...

I bet its the same one, it's great tbh, a little fliptop, i've just given mine to a 13 year old and she loves it.

schneebly · 02/09/2006 11:42

My first mobile was a sagem and I never had any problems with it! She will love it and it wont cost you an arm and a leg!

fattiemumma · 02/09/2006 11:45

thats not cheap! i bought one at christmas to be used for XP to call DS (he's 6 so really doesnt matter what it looks like) and it cost £7!!!
that was from carphone warehouse.

if its a phone and it works it'll be fine! as you say its lilac and thats all that matters

fairyfly · 02/09/2006 11:46

The good thing about my pink one was that i could leave it on a table in a bar and no men would steal it.

Orlando · 02/09/2006 11:57

Blimey O'reilly fattiemumma, I'm not telling dh he could have got her one for £7! He'll have the lovely lilac back to the shop in no time and be down the carphone warehouse quicker than you can say 'tightarse git'.

I feel much more positive about it now, thanks everyone!

We've had two Sagems for teens' first phones, one now 5yrs old and passed on to younger dd, the other 3yrs old, both still going strong, no probs at all - unlike my Motorola which no longer holds a charge for more than 5 minutes even though it's only a year old.

Orlando · 03/09/2006 10:28

Ah. An update....

Woolworths sold out of the lovely, bargain super Sagems, so dh and dd returned with a purple glittery Alcatel. Even cheaper. Have charged it up and registered it and everything, and it seems to be working OK, but without the mumsnet seal of approval I'm very sceptical.

(Rafaella, love your name. Is it in homage to the lovely Ms Barker by any chance?)

Thanks Orlando, no, it's just that I'd like to be the kind of person who is called Rafaella.
