smeg dual fuel cooker - smelly fumes

has anyone experienced this? my dual oven is about 4 yrs old and just in the last week has started smelling when the main oven is heating up. It's all clean inside and it's not a food burning smell, but more of "plastic" burning type of smell.
Got someone coming out next week, but still having to use it, with all doors and windows open..
has anyone had similar probs?

I had exactly the same thing. does it only happen when the oven is on? I found out that a small plastic toy had fallen into the hinged bit where the oven opens, and as the oven heated up it was giving off a horrid smell. only found it after virtually dismantling the hwole thing - taking the back off etc etc. because it was a black plastic toy it was very hard to spot. hope this helps!

also, we did have the clock replaced at about the same time, so it could have been that. seems strange that you have the same cooker and exactly the same problem. I'd always assumed it was the plastic toy, but it's got me thinking now! anyway, at least the smell has gone - i remember only too well keeping all the windows open!

surprise - that's wiered eh? I've checked all round the oven so can't imagine anything is trapped inside, although you never know with the dd's posting things everywhere.
Engineer coming next week so I will le tyou know!
