My dad has asked me to recommend a phone for my mum

She wants it to take pictures and to be able to use it abroad (they travel a LOT).

She's not great with techy stuff.

They have an ipad but I think just my dad uses that.

Any suggestions? I have an iphone and DH has a windows phone clearly mine is way better so in some ways something that I know how to use myself might be an advantage, but I'm just wondering if someone can recommend something good.

Well my mum had a basic Nokia, easy to use, big buttons, no fancy anything. But she wouldn't have been able to use an iPad so maybe your parents are more technologically savvy than my mum was.

Thanks. I think (I'm guessing really) that it needs to be slightly fancier than basic, but not all bells and whistles!

My dad is the one that mostly uses the ipad to FaceTime me constantly but even he has forgotten his password more times than I can remember!

I've just been through this with my Mum. She wanted to take pictures and have a keyboard for texting so that she didn't have to press the keys over and over again. In the end we went for an iPhone 4S, partly because I also have one so I can help her when she's stuck. She's had a it a couple of weeks now and although I doubt she's using it to its full capacity she has managed to send pictures to me etc. She is using it to take photos of the garden to show my Dad as he's in hospital, and also to keep a lot of people up to date with his health via email and text. She didn't have an iPad before but she's doing really well with an iPhone. She's in her early 70s and never used a computer at work, so it's quite a learning curve.

Yes, I could talk her through a 4s and download games for the dcs onto it

I didn't realise you could still get them, they seem a good price now.
