Portable DVD Player - is 7" screen big enough?

I am currently trying to persuade dp to buy one of these. The one I am looking at (being sold on here) has a 7" screen. He thinks it is too small and we should go for 9". Has anyone got one that they could give me their opinion on please. Thanks

i have a 6.5inch screen on mine, its perfect for the kids sitting in the back. dont see why you need an 9inch tbh, the point of them is to be compact.

Is it for an in car system? 7" is fine for that, we use ours in the tent too (on wet evenings!) and as the dd's are lying on the floor they are much closer than they would be if they were watching the tv at home iyswim.

Clearly you don't get 40" HD quality pictures but I'd say it's fine.

Yes it would be for in the car and in the tent etc.

You make a very good point there misdee - hadn't thought about it like that, thanks.

LucyCat, misdee - are your just run on batteries or can you plug them into the mains electric?

we have a 7" and it is more than fine

TwoToTango · 28/08/2006 16:32

Do they on run on the battery or can you get ones that work off the mains?

ours came with a mains adapter lead and a car cigarette lighter lead - we use either of those and not the battery really.

Be warned, if your lo's are wtaching a dvd and your dh turns the car engine off, the dvd goes off too - although maybe it doesn't if you use the battery too - I've just thought of that

Ours is something like this one but the ones with the dvd player built in give more leg room. Not sure whether they have a stand at the back though so you can use them in the tent?

This one looks like a good deal.

Ours was a godsend sitting on the M5 this summer!

TwoToTango · 28/08/2006 17:25

Thanks for that - I think I will keep looking for one with a mains adaptor.

I bought this one from Ebay for DS1 for Xmas, it's really good and the screen is fine.

misdee · 28/08/2006 18:34

mine runs on mains, cigerette lighter or battery. i tend to charge it befoire we go, and use the cigerette lighter adaptor after we stop halfway.
