fitted wardrobes - anyone had them done?

We're moving into a new house soon and there are no wardrobes or storage in any of the rooms (grrr) - so, we're wondering how much it would cost to put some in. We'd prob need two wardrobes, both with double doors, either as one large unit or two seperate. I fear that Sharpes etc will be extortionaly expensive and would rather have someone make them out of MDF or whatever so we could paint them whatever colour we fancied. Anyone had this sort of thing done and could let me know what an average cost would be? Thanks

ooh yes I'd like to know something about this too

if they come and measure up are they really pushy after?

cos me and dh were wondering about getting them in to do and design and then, um, making it ourselves

would this work?

i think getting a carpenter could work out as expensive as say MFI, i think its really the fixtures and fittings you pay for, doors, racks, hanging space etc etc, imo these are worth it, esp if this is a house u plan on being for a long time.
the run smoothly in and out and are adjustable height wise.

my friend just had 4 dbl wardropes done in her house in one room, long wall, and it was 2200 approx.

worth it if u can pay for it.

We had fitted wardrobes put in and it was expensive, but definitely worth it. We got double the hanging space we had with freestanding wardrobes, and stuff like shoe racks and tie rack built into door. I would just get specialist companies like Sharps and Hammonds to come round and give you quotes, and also get some local carpenters to do the same.

Wehad them done in our house by a builder friend across our entire bedroom wall (maybe 20 feet?)
I sketched what I wanted (ie mixture of cubby holes and hanging space plus above hanging space storage.

He did it in MDF,painted them to match bedroom and bought very cool long brushed steel handles for them (from specialist industrialcompany)
Cost a few ££ and looks great.
