OK, who thinks that this is funky and unusual and who would rather have root canal treatment that have it in their house?

I realise it is hybrid of trad look with modern materials which is why I can't decide if it would be a design disaster or something really cool!

Will tell you which I think once you have all voted!

Errrm.... Not really my kind of thing but then our kitchen would probably be too small to carry it off.

Bear in mind that I live in London and am not looking for country cottage look!

I like the idea and look ofit but foresee endless grindingly dull drudgery trying to keep the metal rim clean. Prefer a flush finish with the worktop

Really really must get out more

madgirl · 16/03/2004 17:18

CD I really like it- if you have a big modern kitchen

melsy · 16/03/2004 17:18

I think it is fabulous CD very cool idea in principal, I love butler sinks. My friend is gutting a house and would love that.I will have to show her. The only problem is you may kick yourself after , as stainless steel takes a lot of maintenance. Windolene Window cleaner works well on it !!!and then a wipe with a small drop of baby oil , yes baby oil.

See a lot of work , but fabby looking.

lou33 · 16/03/2004 17:19

I like it too, but would be forever cleaning it I think. Hello Sooz btw

CountessDracula · 16/03/2004 17:19

Yes that was my concern too, but do have a cleaner twice a week. Kitchen will be about 19 x 17 by the time we have knocked out a wall so can take it.

You have my life CD. Time to give it back I think.

suedonim · 16/03/2004 17:23

Like it! It looks as though it could be sealed to the worktop, too. It's a bit low, that's the only problem.

CountessDracula · 16/03/2004 17:23

Bear in mind will no longer have dining room! Do not live in a mansion!

OP posts:
suzywong · 16/03/2004 17:24

hello lou

melsy · 16/03/2004 17:25

Yes I have a cleaner once a week and she does my stainless steel range, which is a bloody nightmare. I still have to clean it EVERY day. Dont mean to put you off , because I would probably get something on aesthetics and sod the practicalities!!!!

CountessDracula · 16/03/2004 17:25

suedonim don't plan to be doing much in way of washing up as have dishwasher. So height not so important, though dh does have a bad back so may try and skive washing up due to sink being too low. Hmmm will have to take that into consideration! Maybe will get him lowered

I actually think the CERAMIC one would look nicer in the kitchen you are having. But if you break dishes or the clener has problems with it dont blame me

lou33 · 16/03/2004 17:26

Not only do we not have a dining room, but we have no dining room table space! I refer to my earlier post.

CountessDracula · 16/03/2004 17:27

sorry

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 16/03/2004 17:32

I'd prefer a traditional ceramic one. I have a white plastic sink at the moment and it's a pain to keep/get clean so I'd be reluctant to get something like that steel butlers sink which would be a nightmare.

I think it's the sticky fingers on that oh-so-lovely satin finished front that gives me the shudders.

bundle · 16/03/2004 17:34

my taps (ikea special) have a big curvy bit like that and splash like hell whenever I turn on the water. even if I put a sponge in the sink to cushion it..

21stcenturygirl · 16/03/2004 17:36

Snap - my friend has this. However, she spilt some microwave cleaner on it and it has these awful patches on it now. As I used to have a cleaner that used microwave cleaning stuff on all of the kitchen, I would not consider one.

CountessDracula · 16/03/2004 17:41

OH GOD! What shall I do?
I really like it myself, but can see is impractical and will hate it within 2 mins of having it, but I just love the look of it. can't you get something to paint on stainless steel that keeps it pristine?

OP posts:
Thomcat · 16/03/2004 17:45

I was scared of what I might see when i opened that up but it's lovely.

melsy · 16/03/2004 17:46

You could use a clear matt laquer but it wouldnt last very well unless baked on, water will drench it and it will leave a horrible patina. Sorry cd

bundle · 16/03/2004 17:52

life's too short for pristine, cd

CountessDracula · 16/03/2004 17:57

My version of pristine and someone else's are not necc the same! Am not v pristine has to be said.

TC I am shocked that you have so little faith in my taste
