Yaris is brilliant! I had one before DH wrote it off

poppyh · 14/08/2006 23:46

Had a yaris, but third child meant we had to sell.
It was a brilliant car, so fuel efficent and great to drive. Never really enjoyed driving until I had a Yaris, lovely car!

divamummy · 15/08/2006 22:43

yaris is quite nice, but really small boot space. dds dtroller wont fit. aygo is smaller

Blondilocks · 15/08/2006 22:49

I test drove a Yaris & didn't like it. Sure it's probably a good car but it wasn't for me (that & the fact that the salesman was a total creep - told me it had central locking but I'm not stupid enough to notice him locking both sides of the car after our test drive! Also he drove half of the test drive - what's the point of that?!)

Anyway, the things I didn't like about it were where the speedo was. It just felt so unnatural having it in the centre of the dashboard & the small engine (it struggled to get up a small hill). It's probably great for around town etc but I would have gone mad driving it to work every day (I do 50 miles a day).

It just seemed a bit too small.

But everyone has a different opinion. The best thing is probably to go & drive them yourself & see what you think.

Quootiepie · 15/08/2006 22:52

you can make the Yaris boot bigger by moving the back seats. Also, I had the 1.3SR...abit more oooompf

blondilocks I had a Yaris on test all weekend and the central speedo was exactly what put me off. Made me feel travel sick.
Testing the Aygo this weekend

I didn't even know that they did a 1.3. Would have wanted to test drive that rather than the one I did try.

The salesman wasn't particularly useful - he didn't seem to care what I actually wanted the car to have or anything like that.

Just out of interest why a Yaris or a Aygo?

The centre speedo just seemed so wrong. I felt it took more concentration to look at it & also didn't like the speed being in numbers rather than a dial form.

We have an Aygo. Got it for me at Christmas, although it is now DH's car. I do a lot of motorway driving and although it is pretty good once driving on there, I found the acceleration not so good. It is a lovely car to drive however and DH thinks it is great for city/local driving. Considering he s used to driving much more powerful cars, that is a good comment from him!

And they are very reliable cars. Some good deals on at the moment too.

I have 1.0 yaris and will miss it when we trade in for a station wagon this month. After driving it for several days, I didn't notice the speedo anymore & find it hard to drive a car without one as I have to concentrate more! I've never had a problem with it, it's incredibly reliable as are all toyotas, v.easy to drive/get it and out of. Would go for a 1.3 though if I was buying again. Boot, however, is ridiculous & if you push seats forward, a toddler in a car seat won't thank you as they've got no space to swing legs etc.

PadmeP · 25/08/2006 22:26

Oh the Yaris definately - I'm so in love with mine I can't begin to tell you. I always hated cars/machinery before but my Yaris is my best friend now (well after dh!) Ours is now 6 years old (we've had it for 3) and I have never ever had any problems with it. Yes the boot is small but then its a small car (and really easy to park!) but when you fold the seats up, you can even get an oven in the back! I think I'll cry when we have to say good bye to it.

jasper · 25/08/2006 22:51

Blondi because I am very impressed with Toyota and now want a smaller car.

Really liked the Aygo I had last weekend

Pad does yours have the speedo in the centre of the dash down a tunnel?
That made me feel travel sick.
Do you get used to it?

Yes speedo is in a kind of modular egg-like lcd screen in the centre with the speed in figures. I find it really easy to see and use, and when you go abroad you can just click it to kilometers per hour rather miles per hour. If I had one critisim of it, its that when dh is driving, I have to peer round the corner to check he's not going over the speed limit but then that's just because I'm anal about keeping to speed limits!!

Sparkler1 · 25/08/2006 23:07

I know it's not on your list but just wanted to say that we have a Toyota Avensis Verso - 7 seater and it's great. Seats are easily removable and there is stacks of boot space when the two rear seats are taken out.
Only thing I would say about it is we do go through quite a lot of petrol but I do a lot of around town driving which doesn't help it any car really.

Hollyboo · 26/08/2006 09:56

Got my Yaris a while ago and I love it.

WideWebWitch · 26/08/2006 10:03

One of my friends has a Yaris and loves it.

shazronnie · 26/08/2006 10:26

I love my yaris, and I am completely used to the tunnel speedo arrangement!

hulababy · 26/08/2006 10:47

The Aygo has the central speedo. Have to say I did ahve to go and check though. Obviously never really noticed too much. Certainly hasn't been a problem!

Blondilocks · 26/08/2006 11:01

Just wondered that's all. When I looked I ended up with a Fiesta which I was very pleased with (plus have a local garage rather than having to take it 30 miles for a service!)
