Advice - shoes for toddler - fitting

Looking to buy my toddler another pair of shoes, can anyone recommend a shop with excellent fitters in Sussex? Or can anyone tell me what I should look for when the fitters are fitting.
My child has been walking now for 4/5 months (first shoes were Startrite Tots). I bought a new pair last week (Hush Puppies), fitted professionally (independent shop), but I am concerned with the fit as they are leaving a mark on one foot (where the arch of the foot is, although she doesn't really have an arch which is what I think the problem may be), they are leather but seem quite stiff around the heel and on the T bar fastening and the soles are not terribly flexible. I have taken the shoes back to be checked and the shop have said they are fine and they need to be "worn in".
I am thinking of looking for some softer more flexible shoes but don't know where to go. Are Clarks or Jones OK (I have read on here both those who recommend Clarks and those who don't), I'm erring towards Jones as they sell Startrite and I was happy with these first shoes, my child is a G width.
On the subject of Clarks, are all Clarks shops franchises? If not are the franchises better than the non-franchises, how do you tell which shops are franchises.
Sorry for rambling, but my instinct says get a softer pair of shoes. Am I just being paranoid?
Any advice gratefully received.

Clarks for us - all their fitters are trained to measure and fit for children. Unfortunately you might have missed the sale = expensive.

My dd is a G fitting too-nightmare really-generally a huge choice of........one.

Went to Clarks for first fitting,John LEwis for second then last week went to Russell and Bromley kids. They were by FAR the best in terms of thoroughness and dd had the biggest choice o fshoes ever. The fact that we ended up taking the only pair that really fitted her was beside the point.
If you have one near you (I went to Brent X)the I would give them a go.....
