Children's Table and Chairs

I'm looking for a table and chair set for DS1's bedroom. I know the ELC and JL have them, for about £75 - is this the going rate or can I get them cheaper somewhere else? He is almost 3, but very big for his age, so the very junior ones probably won't do.
TIA

Ikea?

Letterbox usually have nice ones, but prob more than ELC.

Tommy · 12/08/2006 17:06

we have these from Ikea

DS1 is a very big 4 year old but he still fits them.

Can't see the pic there but I think that is th set we got yers ago, still going strong. The table has been used for alsorts Christmas tree, coffee table, lamp table, mini desk, kids meals, DD has now claimed it for her room ans has her CD player and stuff on it, chairs relegated to loft but still fine just outgrown.

Definitely the cheapy Ikea one. Ours is probably around 5 years old and still going strong. I've recently repainted the top to tart it up but that's all.

I pinned a bit of plastic table cloth over the top when kids used it as a drawing table.

Toys R Us have a new red table and chairs set on their website. Its £29.99 for the set, which is really good compared to ELC, etc. It is showing out of stock at the moment, available at end of August. Sorry, cannot do links!, but you'll find it if you just search for "table" in the keyword box.

Thanks girls - looks like a trip to IKEA might be inevitable - need to pysch myself up for it though!

I have 2 DDs aged 5 and 6. Do you think the Ikea set will be too small? Have been looking for something like this for their room, to sit at and do homework.

Skribble · 12/08/2006 22:26

Actually its not that bad with the kids now that they are older and I don't crap myself everytime I lose sight of them.

Skribble · 12/08/2006 22:28

There are different ones but the little sets might be a bit small very soon. They do a square dining table and chairs in pine very cheap that might be more practical long term.

hockeymum · 13/08/2006 07:45

We've got the ikea one and I painted it for my dd, she loves it, definitely recommend it.

We've also got the IKEA

dining chair here

only £13

Gilling 76 more your childrens size? and lots of tables or drop leaf tables for less than £25

I got DS a table and 2 chairs in yellow from Wilkinsons last week. The table was 6.00 and the chairs 3.00 each. They are like the plastic patio chairs you can get in dark green/blue or white. Cheap and cheerful and incredibly easy to keep clean.

LemonTart · 13/08/2006 10:18

we have the Ikea set that Tommy mentioned. My DD 5.5 yrs fits fine. Takes my weight too!! I use a chair to step up to change top bunk so doubly useful
As long as your 6 yr old isn?t huge and doesn?t mind a smaller height of chair, should be fine. Go to an Ikea store and let them try a set out

hockeymum · 13/08/2006 14:34

oh yes, I'll second that on the weight front. I often sit down with dd at her table on her second chair (and I weigh about twice what some of you way) they are VERY strong!

Gillian76 · 13/08/2006 19:10

But that means I'd need to take them with me!
