converting an electrical socket into a phone socket thingie.....

I am sure that over christmas when mooching through calalogues I found a gadget that allowed you to convert a normal electrical socket into a telephone socket. This would be excellent as our phone line comes in up the attic so I have an extension lead running round the walls and downstairs to my office.

But of course now I want one I'm blowed if I can remember when I saw it or even what it was called.
Did I imagine this? Can anyone help!

I've seen them at Asda (?), I think. Or possibly b&q. Or maybe it was Costco. Only 3 stores I go to that have electronic stuff, so it has to be one of them. It wasn't cheap.
Alternatively you could run the wire down the outside of your house. Find BT van outside someone's house and offer the guy £50 to come and install a second phone socket in your office. It will be more reliable than a converted electrical socket and not much more expensive.

Katherine, with linked cordless phones you only have to plug one into a telephone socket - the rest just need a power supply.

Of course if the main one has to be the answerphone you'd have to keep going up to the attic to check it.

We got an ex BT engineer from an ad in the local paper to do us an extra socket - £30.

Maplin Electronic stores do them. I think they're called a phone port/wireless phone connection. We have two in the house and they work perfectly. The beauty of them is that you can create a phone connection in any room by moving them about - particularly useful if, like me, you use a laptop or computer in variety of locations! They're about £80 each. V easy to install and use.
