Text to speak - which kindle do I need or is it possible on the ipad kindle app?

Does anybody use the text to speech function on their kindle? I often use the kindle app on my Samsung note 2 or on ipad rather than take kindle about with me as well. Does anyone know if the text to speech thing is possible using these devices or am I looking at getting a fire as none of the normal kindles seem to have the tts feature?

If fire, there now seems to be 3 different types in 2 different sizes. Recommendations? Thanks.

Dd uses it all the time on her kindle touch - I think the table of features shows which models do and don't t have that feature
