If so what is it?

I want to take a camcorder to kazakhstan with me. As cheap as possible but record onto a format which is easy to edit and play on DVD. I have a dvd burner on my pc.

We have a Sony DCR-HC14, it's a couple of years old now. V easy to use
I think it was pretty cheap maybe 160 quid from Amazon
Records onto mini DV tapes and you can download onto a pc from there
(no clue about this as never done it myself)

When you download from tape to computer, do you find the quality OK? Do you (or whomever) burn it to a DVD, can you edit it?

Haven't tried downloading yet, apparently it came with all the software (windows version) and you can then edit and burn to dvd
Sorry can't help further

Thanks - are keepingquiet and theblonde the saem person or do you both just have the same camcorder?

Sorry useless post from me, I have a Sony too but not sure of the model number - DV tapes though

You can get one that records straight to DVD

suejonez · 10/08/2006 11:34

but I hear that the ones which record straight onto DVD are difficult to edit so I may be better off with a dv tape one. Are you happy with your? Is it easy to use?

We've got a Panasonic NV GS150. Bought it about 9 months ago, but is now discontinued. Originally wanted a Sony, but found the Panasonics easier to operate. No problems so far except the free software was rubbish!

One other word of warning. If you're planning on editing your footage on your PC. Make sure it's reasonably modern (last 2 years) and has plenty of memory. Otherwise it is a veeeeeeeeryyyyyy sloooooooooooow process!
