Gel bike seats - are they any good?

I've recently been given a really nice bike - I've been out a couple of times and it's fine except it makes my arse hurt!! I always thought I was naturally well padded but the seat is so hard and it spoils the ride.

Have seen gel saddles which claim to add comfort - any recommendations - do they work?

Now this looks comfy No more numb butt - that's what I need.

I've got a gel saddle on mine - oooh, the relief!

Is it a leather saddle ? They are supposed to (eventually) take on the form of your posterior, and are supposed to be very good. It could be it has the form of someone else's posterior and this is not suited to your own IYSWIM.

chapsmum, a keen cyclist likes gel saddles IIRC.

would like another definitely.

Will definately need one - went out today and was in agony both whilst riding and then getting off afterwards was torture.

Strange you mention Chapsmum Hub. I was wondering about her earlier on the missing mumsnetters thread.

Think she might be on an extended honeymoon / travelling adventure though not sure.

btw - ass always hurts after initial ride following long length off the saddle.

You're supposed to get back on and endure it...

LOL

My stepdad got one, because he found that ordinary saddles were too uncomfortable after he had a prostate operation. He thinks it's wonderful, no way he could go without it.
