Pads, Discs, could be either or both. I had that recently, both got replaced - fairly costly.

I know nothing about cars though, just drive one. I rely on the mechanics knowing what is wrong and fixing it.

Track rod ends, or tie rods. Can't remember which is was but my car did exactly the same thing and that was the problem. And without wanting to scare you too much, it was serious despite only being a bit of a knocking noise. My mechanic told me the wheel could have come off at any point. It wasn't an expensive fix though (I can't remember how much it cost which means it was probably well under £100!).

Could be shock absorbers - you brake and the worn shocks can't absorb the 'dip' forwards. Some cars have suspension that needs to be pumped up (with hydaulic fluid) from time to time, so it might just be that.

I had this. Cannot remember what is was, but will ask OH. It wasn't anything major.

Have googled and now I remember. It was the CV joint.

CatONineTails · 08/02/2014 19:24

CV joints tend to knock when turning corners IME

fourlegstwolegs · 11/02/2014 22:30

Whatever it is, go and get it fixed!

fortyplus · 15/02/2014 19:39

So... what was it?! Grin

not2nitedarling · 18/02/2014 21:43

ummm. still haven't taken it in. doesn't make the noise when I turn corners just when approaching junction.

Brake pads ?

Have you looked to see if you can see bare metal through the holes in your wheel ? < technical >

superram · 18/02/2014 21:46

For me it was worn brake pads and discs.

MrsBennetsEldest · 18/02/2014 21:49

The bearings have gone.

not2nitedarling · 18/02/2014 21:50

Brake pads are best case scenario. Hope it is that Smile
