Lightweight buggy for 5mth napper & tall dad (Maclaren XT?)

I have done my back in (I blame my Quinny buzz in part....) so am going to buy a lightweight buggy for going into town.

My DS 5 months is a napper and sleeps every 2 hrs so it needs to be comfy for him and easy to recline when he is in it.

I have a tall husband 6'7" (the main reason for buying the buzz) and while it will mostly be me pushing the puggy I want him to be able to push it too. I wouls also like a one hand fold as I have 15 steps at my local train station to negotiate and I can't always rely on a frienly person helping me up like I have to with the buzz.

I have narrowed it down to the Maclaren Techno XT and Techno Classic as both have a handle height of 111 cm. The little shopping basket though isn't good as we walk most places. I like the Graco CitiSport but I don't think the handle will be high enough.

Are there any other comfy buggies out there with good handle height that I have missed?

M&P Pulse maybe? not sure of the handle height

SpaceCadet · 03/08/2006 19:56

techno xt is fairly lightweight, although heavier than other maclarens, great for tall people so definitely good for your dh. also the m&p zilko has a high handle i think and is reasonable lightweight.

I had noticed that the mamas and papas buggy seemed to have heigher handles than most- can't find a spec on their website though

i've got a techno xt and i like it, i live on third floor and carry it upstairs so its fairly light but i cant exactly fold it with one hand i can fold it up but then need the second hand to clip it so that it doesnt open up again (hope ypu understand) handle height adjusts but only bout inch or two , reclines fully but then you cant put anything in basket from behind but i think thats quite common, the only think is that when it reclines with a jolt so might wake your lo up. hope that helps

MrsApron · 03/08/2006 20:46

graco citisport barely tall enough for me at 5 8.

Techno nice and tall bumps up and down stairs nicely with child in. Don't know any others that are tall I'm afriad, we tried loads and my Dh at 6 2 looked like he was pushing a dolls buggy with most of them.

hairymclary · 03/08/2006 20:48

The Jane energy is tall and really, realy nice. It's much more hard wearing than the mclaren IMO. I know several people with them and the material on them just seems to wear through really quickly.
Oh and the Jane is much lighter

QueenPeaHead · 03/08/2006 21:03

jane crappy quality though.

I've just got a mclaren ryder with a 5 mth napper and a 6ft 3 husband (not quite the same as yours) and it is good. Slightly less heavy than the technos, reclines completely, comes with a furry liner for the winter, and was reduced in mothercare by £30 to I can't remember what. £120? Think it is the same height as the techno.

hairymclary · 03/08/2006 21:08

Do you think? Mine has ben fab

ScotGirl · 03/08/2006 22:17

thanks for the help

M&P Pulse handle height 108 cm ave price £89
Jane energy 107cm £100
Maclaren Techno 111cm £145

is what i've narrowed it down to so far...

time to hit the shops.....

Scotgirl, I have a Maclaren techno, and a husband who's 6'2" (not as tall as yours!). I got it when DS was born (May 04), and have used it loads and loads. It has been fantastic. The handle can be set at 2 heights, so DH extends it to make it taller, and I shove it back in to make it smaller. You can recline it gently if you hold onto the handles on the side and slide them down.

NIFFA4 · 01/03/2009 18:38

mamas and papa avia has long handle but break gets in way if you have long legs!

nicolamumof3 · 01/03/2009 19:32

techno, definitely get a techno. i have had so many maclarens and so many other pushchairs and these are the best umbrella fold. both my 19m old and 3yr old has plenty of room. really comfy for naps and thefootmuff is lovely that you can buy seperately.

lovely tilting hood for the summer you won't need a seperate sunshade. maclarens are more expensive for a reason...they last forever such good quality.

get a maclaren you won't regret it!

carrielou2007 · 01/03/2009 20:21

I agree, that pesky Nicola got me hooked on maclarens, the new black xt is just fab.

Other choices could be silver cross pop and silver cross dazzle. I have had both and totally LOVED the dazzle, very funky looking and very high handles.

I find the xt a bit more 'masculine' than the dazzle though think the maclaren quality better.
