Bugaboo or Pramette?

I'm having my first baby in October and my lovely MIL bought me a Bugaboo yesterday. I'm not completely convinced it's the right buy however and would really appreciate some advice. We live in SW London and I will be walking mostly everywhere, so in that respect I'm sure the Bugaboo will be great, but I'm a bit worried about talking it on public transport. Will it fit on tubes/buses easily? Does it take up loads of space at home? I'd originally wanted a Mamas and Papas pramette as it was easy to fold and I thought it'd be easier to take on public transport/on flights/to store at home...

If anyone out there can advise me I'd be really grateful!

tbh they're a bugger to fold, and don't go down that small even when folded but if you've got decent walk-on walk-off buses and/or tube stations with lifts rather than escalators you may be ok.

And of course if she's bought you the Bugaboo carrycot thing too you won't need a moses basket (v handy), so perhaps the storage space may be less of an issue?

Personally I'd stick with it - you've got it now, it was free and IME you'd need a degree in conflict mediation to swap it without offending her!
Eventually you're bound to buy a lightweight Maclaren type for slinging in car / taking on holiday etc, and the Bugaboo should last you till then, even if it is a bit more unwieldy than you might choose.

You'll get extra trendy-mummy points when you're out in the park too, and if SW London means Clapham/Richmond/Putney/Wimbledon you'll fit right in .

hi tinasan - i'm in sw london too and bought a pramette when i was pg. then i got serious bugaboo envy, sold my pramette on ebay and bought a cameleon. love it. easy on the tube - well, as easy as any pram can be - you don't need help getting it on/off. haven't tried buses. it's far more manoeuverable (sp.?) and comfortable to use than the pramette imho.

i have ordered a maclaren buggy for holidays though - bugaboo a bit to heavy for me to consider taking (although i have friends that have done) and i would worry about it being damaged.

the only downside is the bleedin price, but that's not an issue if your MIL bought it!

good luck

Yes. I live in central london and the bugaboo is like a portable home - means I can change him, feed him and let him sleep in a comfortable carrycot, and its not a hassle once you get used to it/ BUT, it does not fold up into half - you have to dismantle it to put it in the car, which could be a hassle. I've just carried it whole onto buses and tubes and black cabs though and its been fine.

Thanks all - I feel better about it now, and if it makes me a yummy mummy then so much the better (I need all the help I can get)!

cheers!
