2004 or 2005 Mountain Buggy urban?

accessorizequeen · 29/07/2006 15:06

Nearly convinced myself to swap mugaboo for mb urban but will have to buy 2nd hand to justify doing this as mb will be 5th pushchair I have purchased!
Any advice on whether to get newer version or if 2004 version will be ok? Are changes to 2005 worth hanging out for as turn up less on ebay? Neither dp or I tall, so extendable handlebar is not an issue (although I do quite like them). We have sheepskin for extra padding & buggysnuggle as well. DS1 2.7 and DS2 due in December. Did read about 2005 model being less suitable for off-roading, has anyone found that to be true as I want to take it round local woods & so forth although not up mountains thus not considering the terrain.
There is 2004 model on ebay now which is bargain with carrycot, whereas 2005 models seem to go for more. Help!

No probs! Didn't buy my bug until DS about 14 months and never used it rear-facing much (tho nice when he was ill or needed some reassurance). But guess I'll never miss what I didn't have 1st time round (although I did have a jane matrix car seat for first four months rear-facing). The little window on the MB is a bonus, DS made me open it so he could turn round & grin at me every 10 minutes!

2004 model is indestrutible - I personally don't like the 2005, by on the handlebar thing etc. they have just created more bits to go wrong IMO. The whole point of MB is simplicity.

Either fine for the woods - when they say less suitable they are talking about hiking the Abel Tasman with it.

hoxtonchick · 19/08/2006 20:48

since this is the mountain buggy obsessives thread , i'll share my excitement at having washed the cover of mine today. it looks like new! now just have to work out how to re-attach the bloody thing...

accessorizequeen · 19/08/2006 22:00

I do like the adjustable handle tho', useful for the different people who'll be pushing it including my v.short mum! Didn't know you could wash the covers, excellent!
Bought a 2005 model by the way, this thread has turned into 'persuade' amazonianwoman to buy one too

OP posts:
hoxtonchick · 19/08/2006 22:07

i'm not sure you can officially throw the cover in the washing machine but it doesn't seem to have done any harm. deffo like the adjustable handle, ds likes pushing!

accessorizequeen · 19/08/2006 22:13

Yeah, my DS too, that's a bit of a bonus, hope he likes pushing his baby brother in time!

amazonianwoman · 22/08/2006 13:32

Still liking it? Have you sold the bugaboo yet??!!

accessorizequeen · 22/08/2006 15:56

Haven't had time to take it out again, but still liking it yes. And we bought station wagon on Sunday to put it in!
Sold bug, yeah right, haven't even washed covers!
DS in big bed from Fri night. DS getting out of bed 5 times every night. Sigh.

amazonianwoman · 29/08/2006 13:24

Right, that's it, the bugaboo is going!

Just spent a long weekend in north wales, mostly on the beach and rough tracks, and almost threw the bug into the sea It was IMPOSSIBLE to push even on compacted firm wet sand, and my arms are still aching. We're going to Wales or the Lakes for 2 wks soon and I'm not taking the bugaboo!

So, nuchal scan this afternoon, then if all is well, I'm washing the bug covers, cleaning it up, selling it and getting a MB

accessorizequeen · 29/08/2006 20:55

Hope scan went well, AW! Can't speak for mb on sand (although sure someone has posted on this somewhere!) but pretty brilliant otherwise. I have just ceased to care whether it's big or bulky or won't fit in the boot, it's so nice to push when PG!

Hi, I live in Australia and have a MB Urban Elite. We are on the beach everyday at the weekends dog walking and the MB is great, no probs at all. When I first arrived I thought I would be able to use my cameleon, what a nightmare! I know they say it goes on the sand but not very easy at all. If you getting for sand then needs to be made of alliminium and have sealed wheel bearings and MB told me to make sure I just hosed it down when I came back to to keep looking after it. Lauren

amazonianwoman · 30/08/2006 13:26

AQ - scan went well thanks, risk gone from 1:60 to 1:1200, so v pleased. Have you sold the bugaboo yet?!

Nonnynoo2 - would LOVE an Elite but you can't get them here, reassuring to hear that the Urban is fine on sand

accessorizequeen · 30/08/2006 22:03

AW, glad scan went well, that's relief for you! They don't do those here, so not quite sure about it all (we didn't go for any further tests) but it sounds good news! And if the mb works on aussie beaches (I'm an aussie!) then surely it will survive in wales?!
Full of cold & migraines, so haven't done anything about the bug yet, just not using it! Trying to find a new buggy snuggle or something to complement it's gorgeousness come the cold weather.
How's bed hunting going? got new urchin catalogue yesterday, they have some nice ones

OP posts:
amazonianwoman · 31/08/2006 10:06

Thx, we had to pay for the scan (£175!!!) but it was worth it for an oldie like me.

I'm watching a MB on ebay at the mo, otherwise will try to get a new one from the same seller as you. buggysnuggle.co.uk do some quite nice, er, buggy snuggles!

If you're an aussie what are you doing in this rainy climate??!! I was in Sydney for 3 yrs and LOVED every minute of being there Best city in the world by far.

Can't think about beds til I've sorted buggy - I'll stress myself out too much!

Hope cold etc clears up soon xx

accessorizequeen · 31/08/2006 12:48

No, you're right, best to sort out mb first! Hope you find one soon, which colour are you after?
ouch on the scan cost, thought they were just in addition to standard 10 week & 20 week scans? although I had such a horrible 20 week scan, I'm still tempted to pay for another. Are you past 1st trimester now?
Living in UK for 11 years now, my family all moved over here for the 'experience'. So mum actually round the corner, can't leave her...V.happy in England mostly but do miss my homeland (from Melbourne), haven't visited for 5years now.

OP posts:
amazonianwoman · 31/08/2006 13:14

Yes, finally in the 2nd trimester and feeling fab, bit tired cos DD has decided she won't go to sleep til 9pm (or 11.30pm 2 nights ago )

Think I'll get a black or navy MB - most practical, easier to sell on, easy to jazz up with colourful snuggle etc.

Never made it to Melbourne but have heard it's great - brother in law and family live there so hopefully will go out to see them in the next 5 yrs

accessorizequeen · 31/08/2006 20:34

Urggh, 11.30! We were having similar probs with ds a few weeks ago, have had to cancel naps most days & the new bed seems to have helped too.
Navy is v.nice, but the shopping basket is black weirdly. Also can buy carrycot in any colour I guess, so might get one in red!
Have been recommending MB on my antenatal thread, a few people thinking about bugs. Feel a bit guilty as bug is a good pushchair for some people, a friend has one & won't have a word said about it. Very nice for living in the middle of a city I think, see a lot of them in Leeds & they work well. But not for me (or you!). Hope you get one soon, I'm away again this weekend so can't see the bug getting listed anytime soon.

OP posts:
amazonianwoman · 01/09/2006 09:29

Aaargh, may have a local buyer for my bugaboo, suddenly feeling all sentimental and worried I'll miss it! My 1st baby's pram!!

Going to look on ebay at going rates. Have you thought about what price you'll sell yours for??

accessorizequeen · 02/09/2006 14:26

I know what you mean, a lot easier to let bug go once I had the MB actually in the house. I have much less attachment to bug as we didn't have it when he was a newborn...I hoped we might get 250-280 for it esp as carrycot unnused (which new parents will like, I think) & aubergine seems an unnusual colour. Run a search on completed items on ebay? Much easier to sell locally, that sounds great!

OP posts:
amazonianwoman · 02/09/2006 18:52

I think you'll get more than that, esp if you have accessories. I've seen red bugaboos go for £350-£370 with footmuff, bag clips, carseat adaptors and parasol (I'm a sucker and have all of these!)

I have to sell it to get the cash to buy the MB!

accessorizequeen · 02/09/2006 19:38

I haven't got any accessories tho', didn't buy them as we had other stuff by time we'd bought bug. So extra pleased I got new MB for the price I did!
We picked up new car yesterday so just to have see whether MB will fit in with room to spare!

OP posts:
amazonianwoman · 25/09/2006 11:04

Ooo, ooo, ooo, have just spoken to a local stockist and I can get a brand new black MB Urban 2006 incl shade-a-babe (which I'd probably sell as already have a protect-a-bub) worth £30ish, for £355. I could get it today

Should I do it??? I can believe how pathetic and indecisive I'm being (used to be the most decisive, impulsive, do-it-now person in the world pre babies).

ACCESSORIZEQUEEN - you need to persuade me NOW that the MB is much better than the bug (which is washed, cleaned, scrubbed and polished to perfection ready to go on ebay) and I'll buy it

Off to the Lakes for a week at the weekend, it could be perfect otherwise I'll end up using the bug and having to clean it all over again (would almost pay someone £355 to do this for me)

So, sell it to me!

misdee · 25/09/2006 11:05

get it.

lanismum · 25/09/2006 12:12

are you still deciding
get it woman, its a lovely pram, almost pushes itself.

amazonianwoman · 25/09/2006 12:15

I'm sooo embarrassed What must people think of me on here? I'll be banned for being a MB wannabee obsessive.

Have realised that THIS AFTERNOON is the only time I can go to shop to buy it

Can you get round shops OK with it? (not that I shop much)

SORRY SORRY WILL NOT ASK ANOTHER QUESTION!!!
