Volvo XC90

We have 4 dcs. Hope to have 5 one day but that's another thread. Grin

We currently have a Ford Galaxy. It's okay.

We will need a new car soon and I've been eyeing the XC90.

Anyone got experience and views on this car?

Or recommend another 7+ seater that you've found good ?

The XC90 is an excellent car, but getting long in the tooth now. So best to wait until the new version comes out later this year.

The S-Max is always recommended. Do you need 4x4?

I'm quite a fan of Kia, they are good value and have long 7 year warranties. So you might want to check out the Carens. Or if you need 4x4, the Sorento.

We are totally in love with ours. Currently 10 years old and having open heart surgery but worth spending money on. Comfortable to drive, sit in. Takes 5 adults and 2 children comfortably. The back row is short on leg room but ideal up to age 12ish (my children are tall) and still leaves some boot.

PoppyAmex · 18/01/2014 19:27

I adore mine. It's like driving sitting in armchair and it feels super safe.

the boot is enormous - I currently have a double bugaboo donkey, a trike and a mini suitcase back there and there's still room for shopping.

winkywinkola · 18/01/2014 20:18

Is boot big with all 7 seats up?

OP posts:
foolserrand · 18/01/2014 20:25

I love our xc90. The boot really is huge, even with the rear seats up. Still sometimes regret not going for the Seat Alhambra though. It offered lots more for less money.

HamletsSister · 18/01/2014 22:40

As big as a normal car. Big enough for some shopping etc. For a holiday with 7 you would also need a roof box, I suspect.

fourlegstwolegs · 23/01/2014 14:40

Discovery has 7 seats and is great, also the new BMW X5 has a 7 seat option.

winkywinkola · 24/01/2014 19:54

But aren't the Discovery and X5 total gas guzzlers in comparison?

OP posts:
jonicomelately · 24/01/2014 19:55

Are the new ones out this year? I thought they were coming out in 2015?

EddieReadersglasses · 12/02/2014 16:40

We are thinking of buying one, or something similar. I want something really safe for us all esp wee ones in the back, also reliable, so xc90 would seem to tick all the boxes on paper. We have a limited budget so won't be getting a new one I don't think!!

AngryFeet · 12/02/2014 16:42

I had a XC90 as a hire car a couple of years ago. I loved it but it was a gas guzzler! But I suppose all big cars like that are.

ruthsmumkath · 17/02/2014 17:17

I love my XC90 - someone reversed into me the other day and not even a dint- I feel very safe!

fourlegstwolegs · 06/03/2014 13:34

I don't think there will be a new XC90 till 2015. Also the OP didn't say if she wanted a brand new car or 2nd hand. "New" can mean new to its new owner or actually new. Other 4x4 7 seaters:
Discovery
Audi Q7
Nissan Pathfinder
BMX X5
XC 90 of course...

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 06/03/2014 13:43

We have a discovery and around town (school drop offs, popping to supermarket), it does about 350 miles on a full tank (tank costs just over £100). No idea how that compares to the XC90 though. Smile

LovingTheSunshine · 25/02/2015 10:15

Considering a xc 90 and looking at current model as suspect there should be some good deals to be made with the new model coming out in April (& can't afford the new one!). Just looking at the seat situation...we have 3 children all in high backed boosters - does anyone else have 3 children in high backed boosters across the middle row? Are the middle row seats bigger/wider than the xc 60? Thanks. We had as S Max & the kids could buckle up their own seat belts which am wanting to continue in the next car. I know we can go into. Move I garage and try the seats out but just wondered if anyone has any experience? Thanks.

LovingTheSunshine · 25/02/2015 10:16

*go into a volvo garage and try the seats out....

MincePieDiet · 25/02/2015 10:20

Yes you can comfortably get 3 high backed boosters in. My dad has a 12 year old one which has done 150k miles. It most likely will last for ever!

MincePieDiet · 25/02/2015 10:21

Oh and if anything hits you they always come off worse. Very safe and solid.

worldgonecrazy · 25/02/2015 10:31

I don't have the XC90 but we did look at it - some of them have integral child seats fitted, so you wouldn't need to put the booster seats in the side seats, just one in the middle.

LovingTheSunshine · 25/02/2015 10:33

We currently have a xc 60 that we love but is, sadly, feeling a bit too small for 3 growing kids! Hubby is worried that you'd need to have the middle seat of the xc 90 slightly forwards to fit 3 hb boosters in. He is kicking his heels a bit so I'm collecting info to entice him I to visiting a garage!

LovingTheSunshine · 25/02/2015 10:35

Thanks world that's true we want to keep the hb boosters as long as possible as they provide more head protection in the event of a crash :)

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 25/02/2015 10:44

I love my xc90. Love it. Safe and solid and huuugggggggeeeeee. Not very economical though. Have 3 dc, the middle row of seats are 3 individual sized proper seats and can be configured any which way

LovingTheSunshine · 25/02/2015 10:50

Great news fish :) Now need to persuade hubby! He knows we need a bigger car...may wait until middle of March so have a couple of weeks to barter down the price with Volvo as she nee one due out April!

LovingTheSunshine · 25/02/2015 10:51

*as the new own due out....

I think we need a new iPad too as this keyboard keeps sticking ;)
