DS's birthday is looming & I know he has his sights on one of these. He does have a PS2. Are they worth the money?

they are very good - very crisp and bright display, can do lots of stuff - music on memory stick, films etc., you can even browse the internet.
Downside is that it's quite fragile - unlike the Nintendo DS, which can take a bit of a battering, the PSP will scratch or break easily if not treated with care. The games are also more fragile than NDS games. I'd only get him one if he's a careful child. How old is he?

we have 3 (one for each male in this house) - what do you think?

Thanks! He will be 11 & is very sensible.

Can you recommend the best games as they are expensive and so he will only have 1 or 2 to start with.

I'm sure an 11 yr old will be fine - my ds's are 7 and 4

what sort of PS2 games does your ds like?

Milliways · 23/07/2006 20:01

He likes racing (Gran Turismo, Rally etc), On the PC he plays shooting / war games (Oh, and he's addicted to runescape!). He also enjoys the platform games.

Ooh, good - think that is one of the ones on offer in a bundle.

Anyone else?

PSP's have more adult type games - and and are more fragile, but are far more coveted ....

until the launch last month of the Nintendo DS Lite - fab fab fab lots of games suitable for the pre-teen maarket, console slightly cheaper, games defintely cheaper. New games coming out weekly for the DS light. Currently available in Black, white and navy blue, watch out for special editions of ice blue, pink and designer themes in the run up to Xmas

Katamari is also a nice PSP game for kids - visually very striking. Bloody hard though!

Thye DS Lite is really lovely - I have an ice blue one, it looks great. The display is much nicer than on the older style DS - a lot brighter, and the console looks a lot swisher.

But as kaloo says - the PSP is a lot more coveted, and a DS will probably will appear second best to your ds. (Although, personally, I think they're more interesting for actual gaming and there are far more games available).
