Buying a used car, any tips?

I have never 'bought' a car from a garage or stranger, my one and only car was an automatic Honda civic that I bought from a friend and then sold on when I moved to London. Now I need to get a vehicle and as I only drive automatics ( tried manual, just could not get on with it) my choices are limited. I'm going for a Honda again but this time going to dealerships and through Gumtree. Any advice on making a good purchase? Thank you

Take a friend..one with some knowledge to help look over and privide a check againt you getting carried away

remember....buyer beware

if you're not totally happy..walk away..hundreds more cars out there

see how the vendor is..body language tone of voice etc..again not happy? leave

got a budget? stick to it like a limpet.

there's always more but keep head on straight eyes open and common sense engaged..you'll be ok!

hope I'm not hijacking but got carried away and have put a deposit down on a car today at a main dealer. test drove car and quite liked it and have got extras but worried I am paying over the odds. easy to get carried away. had low mileage.

will take relative on Thurs but had massive row with dh because I felt he didn't intervene and went along with it even though he is more knowledgeable.

walk away.
