Tchibo Baby & Toddler sleeping bag recall

Bought my first ever Tchibo product 2 weeks ago by mail order from their website- a lightweight summer sleeping bag for age upto 3yrs for £7.

Been really pleased with it as its ideal for this heat -DS loves it. However DP was walking past Somerfield earlier and saw a poster about a Tchibo product recall which sounds like this sleeping bag (no photo but price and description match).

Thought I'd post in case anyone else bought one. I've not heard from Tchibo but have just emailed them -surely if it is the same product they should have emailed people who bought them. After all they've got the recall posters in the shops already.

Yes, mine is the same one. It wont fit him for a while yet, but I bought it cos I had one of theirs for DD and it was really good quality and great for the summer. I got it mail order so it will be a pain in the backside to return it if it is recalled though.

Can't find any info on this on the Trading Standards website - have you heard back from them yet Betty?

BettySpaghetti · 21/07/2006 21:03

No not heard anything -did consider phoning them but just haven't had the time / forgot about it.

The sleeping bag I had was mail order too via the website so I'll probably have the PITA of returning it as well.

Mind you the bigger nightmare will be getting DS to part with it -his "new sleepy bag" means he can't wait to go to bed .

Finally, after emailing them a second time (with arsey undertones!) I've got a reply.

It seems that Somerfield withdrew their stock after one customer complaint. However Tchibo say the sleeping bag "adheres to our strict quality testing" and they have had no complaints so have not recalled/withdrawn it.

They have said that I can return it for a full refund if I wish but TBH DS loves it so much I daren't send it back!

Odd nothing on the Tchibo website about it - perhaps call one of their branches? I've always found the staff ultra-helpful.

BettySpaghetti · 24/07/2006 17:13

They (Tchibo) are saying that they feel that the product does not have a problem/fault though. Thats why they haven't recalled it -its just Somerfield who have recalled it after one customer complaint.
I can't see what the problem could be that the one person complained about -its not as though there are bits that could break off etc! I'm happy to continue using it.

Thanks Betty - I think I'll keep mine then. The one I had for dd a couple of years ago is great so hope this one will be as comfy too. didn't know they sold Tchibo stuff in somerfield!

mummyoftwins · 24/07/2006 21:25

I can highly recommend their sleeping bags - my boys have had 3 each. They also sell Tchibo stuff in some Sainsbury's / Savacentres!
