Name tags with pictures - too "twee" for big school?

My friend has recommended "mynametags.com" for labels and they have a small picture ie football, ladybird, flower etc as an option to go along with the name and phone number. My ds is just about to start school and I think this would be great to help him recognise his belongings but I wondered how soon he would be too old for them. I know how cruel kids can be. They come in packs of 75 so would last for ages. How would your yr3 onwards etc respond to having these?

I would recommend buying a fabric pen and just writing their name in the label

SpaceCadet · 14/07/2006 22:25

i wouldnt bother personally, ds is in reception and he recognises his own name on name tags, at ds's school, they jumper, hat boxes for the children to put things in, so even if they cant find their stuff, the teachers can

jenthehen · 14/07/2006 22:27

Wow, quick responses and positive feedback thanks I'll get them ordered as they do seem very reasonably priced. My ds has chosen the football so it should remain pretty cool. Do the dishwasher ones actually stay on?

um ... where did you see the positive response then? ROFL

jenthehen · 14/07/2006 22:37

It would appear that celia2 was quite happy with hers!

ROFL! Am I right to be scared that both cats and footballs have been mentioned in one post on this thread?

Fabric pen seems sensible to me.

Twiglett · 14/07/2006 22:39

oops .. sorry .. missed that .. just read the 'won't last long' bit

SecurMummy · 14/07/2006 22:40

I would say they were far to twee for big school - but TBH - if they last that long, they are such a good price that it won't hurt to chuck a few leftovers!

Having said that - I go for biro on the washing lable - it lasts ages and I just rewrite it when it gets too light - my children recognice it fine [cheap mother emoticon]

WelshBoris · 14/07/2006 22:41

Do they do pirate ones?????

jenthehen · 14/07/2006 22:47

not sure about pirate ones but just to confirm when I say "big school" I am refering to reception not secondary, just in case you think I've lost the plot!!

lol-id li,ke to see my twelve year old ds with football labels on his clothes..mind you, hes forever losing things..making i could threaten to do it

SecurMummy · 14/07/2006 22:49

oh that's ok then!!

No fine for earaly years - I am not sure dd would liek them at year 3 (going on 4) but up until year 3 she would have been quite happy!

(BTW - in early years they did have name tags - the biro thing doesn't work quite that young IME!)

WelshBoris · 14/07/2006 22:51

football cat pirate??

anyone?

jenthehen · 14/07/2006 23:02
