Travel Systems

Hi,
Can someone offer me some advise please?

Is it worth the extra money to buy a travel system. My midwife has said that the baby should only be in the car seat for 1hr otherwise it damages their back. If thats the case the pushchair I want with the car seat is a extra 90.00. Is it worth the extra 90.00 to get the matching car seat to use as a travel system or would I be better off paying 40.00 and getting a car seat from mothercare. I'm not sure how much use I would get out of the travel system

If you have alot of money to spend then consider the powertrack matrix travel system from Jane (pronounced hany!), the matrix car seat is one that will also lie down flat. You can use it in the car lying down or sitting up. The only thing about it is the car seat is quite big. the pushchair itself is a 3 wheeler, and the car seat can clip to just the frame. it folds down reasonably small as well. But like I said, it is very expensive, between £300 and £400 depending where you go. The Urchin website has it for the cheapest we found. Well worth it though.

I love my travel system. I have heard this research about backs quoted often, but have never come across anyone able to cite the research for me. And I do know that paeds often recommend putting reflux-y babies to sleep in car seats as it stops them refluxing.

I find the travel system really useful. Saes a lot of bother - especially since we have a car seat base in the car too.

Travel system is very useful, especially if you get the sort where the carseat fits over the pushchair seat. That way you have a choice: if baby is asleep when you arrive then you don't need to wake them to get out of the car. We used ours constantly. The advice I was given was 2hr max - and how likely are you to be going around with a young baby for 2hrs without needing to feed/change/play?
