Great my iron has just gone bang with a lovely flash of blue.

wonderful isn't it. Not only have I got a typically full basket of ironing because sods law says its not going to go bang when the basket is empty but it was plugged in to the same extension as the fridge and it seems to have blown that up as well so now the fridge is off and of course its nice and cool today isn't it.

Iron is probably loose wiring connection where cable enters body and twists so much solder joint breaks / cable shielding ages etc. Fridge is probably just a fuse in sympathy or else check your fusebox and reset the mini breaker which is in the 'odd' position compared to the others IYSWIM. hth

not so lol for longwaytogo - i know how you feel, my iron did that to me last week, minus the fridge, but with a big pile of ironing, and it was bloody new! so sent it back, but becasue it was past 28 days has to go for repair first, its 31 days old, but rules is rules apparently!

Are you on dial up or broadband ? Have you just tripped one of your circuits ?

throw it out the window and don't buy another one.
