I flew through Toys R Us this afternoon on a hunt for a new paddling pool and saw a big dsiplay about booster seats for any child up to the age of 12 or under 4 ft 5. What is the law please? When is it changing? Have I dreamt this in the heat?

You weren't dreaming! New law comes into force in September. Any child under 4ft5" must have a booster seat or suitable child seat. It's going to be a lot more difficult to tell kids' friends to just hop in the car unless everyone carries some spare boosters!

wow- will it actually be enforced? As you say, lift sharing will be very interesting. I will need to carry a tape measure and measure all children.
Thanks PeskyPixie!!

A colleague ofmine was stopped by the cops the other day telling her about the new law!
Funnily enough she was told the height limit is 5ft - she is about 4ft 11"!
We have fab Britax Kid seats which are good til age 11 or more.

Phew ! My 12yo is 5ft exactly now and looks set to start on a growth spurt - his last pair of shoes only lasted a month. Ds2 (11) must be on the borderline - must measure him but I can see he's a few inches shorter than his brother. My dd (7) uses a built in booster and ds3(2.5) is as restrained as I can make him in a Britax (tthough he's a bit of a Houdini which makes me panic sometimes !).
