Reasonably priced hair straighteners - whats the best

My GHD Straighteners broke down last month
I tried to send them back for repair but because they are outwith their guarantee I would need to pay £43 to have them repaired.

Are there any on the market which are just as good but with a smaller price tag?

Did you contact them direct and they told you this? Mine were over a year and a half and I just sent them with a covering letter, offering to pay for repair. I got a brand new pair! And my friend returned hers a few months ago, 2+ yrs old and they were repaired for free. Jemella is the name of the company I sent mine, my hairdresser gave me a reply paid ready addressed envolope.
