Fitbit flex or one?

Does anyone have a fitbit? I'm tempted to ask for one for Christmas but they are quite expensive. I'm totally unfit but don't mind walking and have heard them mentioned on here before.

From what I can tell the flex wristband version seems more user friendly but doesn't appear to allow for counting stairs etc. Does anyone have any experience/views on either model?

hi ! I have a fitbit !! I decide to go for the little one - as it has a battery so I don't have to faff about and remember to charge it - I clip it onto the centre of my bra - ( sorry if TMI !) it's absolutely great !! it tracks just how much I do in the day - and does motivate me ! it sends a message like 'only 1600 more steps to track your goal today ' etc ! mine links to iphone so I can see without taking it off where I'm at ! have also linked it to 'my fitness pal ' which is a free cal counting app - which is fantastic ' !! treat yourself now - then ask for the wifi weigh scales for Christmas !!!!

Great, thanks that's really helpful. I was swayed by the wristband as it seemed easier to carry around. They are so close in price but like the idea that climbing stairs get counted too. Can you set it to however many steps you like?

I've got a flex, which I love. I'm not too bothered about the stairs thing, I wanted something to encourage me to keep moving, which it has. There is a new one coming out though (might already be out) which is a watch I think, and it does more than the flex. Maybe check that out? I've also got the scales and link everything with the app on my phone. It's great.

And yes, you can choose your step goal, or any of the goals (active time etc).

OnePlanOnHouzz · 14/10/2013 09:37

you can - you basically set yourself goals ... but if you want a more accurate way of seeing how many cals you are burning - then a polar heart rate monitor would be more accurate - but they don't have a pedometer built in ?! I use a HR monitor when running or doing gym work so I don't over do it ?!
that said - I wore my fit bit with my HR watch and it was pretty accurate in what it said I burned - as both results were almost the same !

I have a fitbit one. I think the advantage over the flex is you can press a little button and it scrolls through the data, steps, floors, calories burnt, activity flower. The flex just has lights on it, so you have to have a recent phone or iPad to view the data. It wouldn't work with my Samsung galaxy 2 for example. It does scyn with the latest iPad, but at least with the one you have all the data to hand. The disadvantage to the one is you have to clip to your bra or pocket, and it became detached a few times. Fitbit have now sent me a new clip so I am hoping it will be more secure.

Thank you. I found the new one mentioned online but no mention of a release date in the UK. Seems to do it all!

I have a fit bit flex bought a couple of months ago . I used it ... Once. It now languishes in a drawer.

I then bought a polar ft 4 heart rate monitor. Fantastic! Using it every day and I'd recommend that over a fitbit. All I want to see is how long my workout lasted, calories burned and my heart rate.

I do however have a fitbit for sale if I've not put you off GrinGrin

bodiddly · 14/10/2013 20:56

How much would you want for it?

CressidaMontgomery · 14/10/2013 21:02

You're welcome to it for £30. I paid £79.99 from Argos. Is the tangerine one. Anyway PM me or whatever - I've been here for 7 years just under a name change at the mo Smile

OnePlanOnHouzz · 17/10/2013 08:30

@cressida. if BoDiddly doesn't want it - I'd be interested - as my daughter wants one now ! :-)

CressidaMontgomery · 17/10/2013 09:39

Just drop me a line- I didn't hear from Bo - and we can sort something out : )

bodiddly · 17/10/2013 09:43

So sorry not to have come back to you - I've had a manic couple of days. I would have loved it but not sure I could get away with tangerine for work etc. Thanks very much though!

I've messaged - been a manic day today - so I only got back on here just before supper time !!

I'm just about to shell out for a fitbit one. Pricey little buggers aren't they? I need to lose 4 stone, and with £50 Christmas money I thought I'd do something useful. I love gadgets and I'm welded to my phone.

With a frequently waking toddler though the sleep stats might depress me!
